Very impressed that the announcer knew the rule and explained it well.

Right, doesn’t happen to often but clearly she’s looked into the new rules a bit.

It would have been a hard call to make but I think it was obstruction

Texas is used to getting lots of breaks. I think that’s going to change soon.

The flipside of that the base runner would had to go so far out of the baseline to not run into the catcher. Unfortunately, the base runner probably would’ve been called out anyway no-win situation for the base runner.

The base "path" is determined at the time of the tag attempt, not before. She could have rounded her path a bit more and MAYBE gotten around the tag legally.

Great call for once by the commentators.

It’s a horrible rule change that benefits a bad throw.

@@SouthernSooner-wn3el Take off the crimson glasses and look at it objectively. The throw took the catcher up the line. She has just as much right to make the catch as the runner has to home plate.

@@tomm3082 I do look at it objectively, it was a terrible throw that was 8 feet down the line, the catcher could have easily caught the ball in the field of play not 3 ft in foul territory, it was a bad rule change.

The moron who said the catcher was “passing through” was clearly ignoring the most obvious obstruction I’ve ever seen. Had the objective been to catch the ball does anyone think that’s the way she would have contorted herself? Still, after watching the series in Austin I was no longer worried about Texas. In spite of hiring someone to come spy from within our program, they’ve still got MW 😅 But at least they have a captain and mental health associates now. We might have split the four games before the WCWS, but OU out scored them like 12-6, even with that obvious obstruction not called. Texas still sucks.

The Texas catcher had to contort her body so to remain blocking the plate until the ball arrived (after the runner) Classic obstruction and the reason for the rule. View down 3rd baseline showed it clearly. And after the terrible call against Hansen. Vs Washington when she clearly received the ball early and moved to tag the runner. Looked like Tarr called it, umpire obliged. Should’ve been a shut out.

With the clip paused at 0:29, you can see the catcher's rear foot in fair territory on the second base side of home. The catcher was positioned in fair territory, NOT blocking the path to the plate until she had to reposition to make the catch. This is textbook NOT obstruction. I am a HUGE OU fan, but sadly, this was the correct call. The catcher played this perfectly.
