The announcers were focused and a blind side hit by WVU near the end of the second quarter and did not see or even mention the clip or block in the back by Tennessee defender at the end of Will Grier scramble. Watch the replay. The clip comes in right as Will Grier heads off the field. Look up a head near the sideline.

I not so sure it was a blind side hit ... and it wasn't helmet to helmet hit , yes it was a hard hit but that was all that was too the hit... as a WVU fan I would say the game was called well but there were plenty of holding calls that went uncalled against Tennessee but we were in SEC land and SEC Officials called the game so I figured as much.... We will take the win and be very happy with it...

Vfl here. Gotta give it up to Grier he’s very elite and could play high at the next level. Only thing I have to say for wvu is that you played a first year head coach and a defense that needs some help lol. I can see wvu making a run for the playoffs if yaw play ya cards right. Congrats on the win and hopefully in the future they will schedule this game again!

great game and not taking anything away from my mountaineers but our d has to find someway not to give up 30-35 a game when we get into big 12 play....my hope is somehow we can slow the sooners down alittle and grier has a day like he did today also games with tcu etc....we have had 3 significant injuries and 2 big time players who transferred during the off season....

Tenn offensive line scary in a bad way. they have to know their assignments for one...but too many times they looked like they were still in practice mode. its not that hard to at least put your body in the way. the more scary situation was the missed assignments and yards allowed after contact by the secondary...nothing blows a game open quicker...nothing. We'll get better soon. congrats to WVU. great season ahead

They blew a big lead in the OK State game and got ripped off by bad calls in the OU game. They lost to Syracuse because their best players, except Sills, did not play. The only game they really lost was Iowa State, where they were beaten even worse than the score, severely outcoached. The secondary was weak. This offense and the 2020 defense would be a collge playoff team.

Tenn. did as good as expected for a new system and a new coach against a strong-bowl team in game one. WVU is definitely better and Greer is a big part of that. Jeremy Pruitt will bring UT to a better place than Dooley or Jones ever could when he gets his players in there. The problem is UF and UGA. And unlike the 90's with Georgia's Jim Donnan when he couldn't beat Spurrier or Fulmer, Pruitt has Smart, Saban, Mullen and a Muschamp team starting to find their identity in his 3rd year. Tough road for the Vols....as usual.

West Virginia and Virginia Tech have pretty favorable schedules, and I think w/ a little better defense, WVU could make some serious noise. Apparently the announcers have no clue what a peel back block or a helmet to helmet hit or a defenseless player is...you cant call a peel back block when the defender is running forward and the block is straight from the front and the defender sees it coming because is right in his face (is why neither a peel back or defenseless was called) and you qouldnt call helmet to helmet because he led with his shoulder (if you called helmet to helmet anytime helmets touched each other it would be one LONG and BORING game because that happens on every play both by the offense and the defense

Grier looks great but that secondary still has me concerned. They need to tackle better in the open field. Tim Jordan was able to break runs when he got to the second level because of the poor tackling and angles. Great win but room for improvement definitely.
