This is a great video. The march-in was off-the-hook, Cold Steel, Golden Delights, and Drum-majors was the highlight of it all. Great job NCAT.

This band is large and the Drum Majors are fire!!! It's just too bad that they didn't have majorettes high stepping and twirling their batons, then the whole routine would have been complete. The dancers will never replace the majorettes; NEVER!!!
@marvindewitt7102 Жыл бұрын
Golden Delight does all three, they all twirl, they all twirl flags, and dance. triple threat.
@LeannaMiller-o6z Жыл бұрын
@@marvindewitt7102 That's great; so why are they prancing in go-go boots instead of twirling batons which looks a lot better. Half could twirl batons and the other half twirl flags which complements a marching band so much better than dancers. Dancers don't really fit. I understand that many bands have dancers these days but that's bc many of those girls can't twirl batons. But having the ability to twirl batons and not do it, is cheating the band out of showing they are top-notch and very unparalleled in their performances. Just bc many aren't doing it, makes them stand out more and can help bring this dying art back to life where it belongs to make others rethink this head-throwing with a series of poses and giratting their pelvises is true dancing when it's not. Nothing compares to the flash of those batons and high stepping in those cowboy boots with big tassels. The drum majors would look a little strange without their batons so know that some things new aren't the best.

@@LeannaMiller-o6zthe big and I mean big college bands like Alabama ,Texas, Auburn , Georgia. Have baton twirlers who not only twirl but are the eye candy of the band ( exclusively White in the South),the Dance team which is next in importance and finally the flag guys and girls. A&T had the most incredible baton twirler ever” Hollis Pippins”who transferred from Jackson State. High School bands in NC don’t have staff to teach baton twirling like they did. Dudley HS in Greensboro was training school for A&T majorettes. They were fine and thick. They were called Clydesdales in the old school. Prof Carson loved Majorettes ( RIP)
@LeannaMiller-o6z Жыл бұрын
@@jamesyourse6611 I am so glad to hear what you're saying. Yes, big White college bands still have baton twirling majorettes and this is the correct way for all marching bands to be and I wish all bands would follow suit as well as do what was done by the late band director for A&T with high schools. I'm from North Carolina and dance schools used to offer baton twirling classes as well as the baton school in Florida which sponsored Miss Majorette of America used to travel the States (or at least North Carolina when I grew up) giving baton twirling camps to teach any elementary or high school girl how to twirl batons. It was amazing with ribbon and trophy competitions. I went all my Summers of high school and was the first and only Black Chief Majorette at my predominately White high school for my junior and senior years. I also won the band's first leadership award under a White Band Director who graduated from Elon College. He was cool and we played all the group, Chicago, hits bc our band was cool and good. I was awarded a band (along with two scholarships) scholarship to bring those skills to their squad. Most Black people can dance but to twirl is another and better skill-set for marching bands Dancers are okay but they don't fit the bill for a marching band. Plus, many of them don't have formal dance training to do their routines much better; they're too redundant. They just do a series of poses; jerking their heads around; jumping in the air; and girrating their pelvises which really isn't dancing. It's sad they want to call this our culture when it's really their leaders in high school and college not pursuing them getting baton twirling training. Unlike leaders long ago insisting that we learn what was done by our counterparts to be just as good as they were. In other words, they encouraged us to come CORRECT and not call half-azz our culture!!!

My cousin followed suit as a majorette but she wasn't as good as I was. I taught her what I knew though and it was up to her to do the rest.
