Melody 5. Chimes of Normandy = Bells of Corneville = Cloches de Corneville. It is an operette, from which around 10 different melodies have been spread on Music Boxes. By Robert Planquette 1876, but sometimes arranger Oscar Olivier Metra takes all the credit.

Since reading the lid tune list, in half-Gothic, makes us analphabets, I add a readable complete tune list, though unfortunately only 5½ melodies are recorded: 0:15min MEL1. How do all those songs fit onto one cylinder?
@DMahalko10 жыл бұрын
The pins are in a spiral track around the cylinder rather than straight-aligned as in a one-song music box. If you look at the comb teeth, the plucker tips at the end are tiny. The pins for each comb tooth fits into a tight spiral, in the gap between each plucker tip. I don't know but I expect the cylinder follows a standard screw thread to keep the spiral correctly aligned. Using a split half-nut, the cylinder could be moved anywhere along the bolt to play any part of the melody shown by the tracking pointer.

Dale Mahalko do not sit in a spiral. After a round, the whole cylinder moves sideways two millimeters, whereby pins from another melody reach the thin pointed comb teeth, while some 7 melodies pass silent between every comb pair. This was also the technique on organ barrels. The only spiral istruments ever made were the roller organs - with one melody per cob, and a version of the Spanish Faventia Llinares miniature barrel piano. If others had used the spiral, one could not listen to more verses of the same melody, which was often desired, and absolutely necessary for barrel organ singers (like me). Roland von Malmborg, Swedens only barrel organ singer.

My mom has one just like this. Any idea what this thing is worth?
@ncauctions9 жыл бұрын
+Michelle Frandsen Smith It depends on condition and exact model. Does it play? $800+ up to several times that if in good condition and working.
@smithchelle9 жыл бұрын
+craig casey, it plays, has 5 extra song rolls, and is in perfect condition. I don't even remember seeing a scratch on it. 800 seems pretty low.
@ncauctions9 жыл бұрын
well I said that was based on condition, Yours in in good condition depending on maker could be worth several times that
