They're not that bad. I've been working around one for 6 years, actually operating it for the past 3 years. There are many safety precautions taken to ensure it doesn't happen. It's more likely to happen because someone is doing something they know they shouldn't rather than something accidental. Not saying it isn't possible but not as bad as you think. Although that's just my own personal experience with my type of dryer (milk dryer)
