DIY Compost Sifter

Here is a compost sifter that I made today. I viewed another KZbin video by Gunz McGraw for the design, however; I modified it a little bit. I used mesh on both the sifter and the bottom section. You'll also notice that I used two pieces of wood on the bottom in order to hold the the base securely to the wheelbarrow.The measurements of the bottom are 22" x 44" and the measurements of the top slider are 18" x 24". I used 1/2" wire mesh for both the both and the bottom. I used pressure treated wood. The sides are 2x4, the ends are 1x4 and the glide raills are 2x2. I used 2 1/2 galvanized screws to attach the the 2x4 and fencing staples to attach the 1/2 inch mesh to both the top and bottom. I purchased the caster (non-swivel) from Home Depot.

Two years ago, after watching this video, I built one of these sized to fit my Gorilla Cart. Made two of the rolling trays - one with 1/2” hardware cloth, one with 1/4”. Works amazingly well. Glad I came across this video again so I can say thank you VERY much for the video. 👍

Thank you for this video! I made one that sits on my Ohio Dump Cart... works perfectly. I will be covering it with boiled linseed oil so that it lasts longer.

I am thinking you don't have to say a word,your project said it for you!! That is an Awesome!! sifter,you just add a heap of compost,worm castings or dirt and the wheels on the track allows for it to slide back and forth..this was a great idea and video.thank you!

This is a basic wood frame on dolly wheels. Excellent choice, great design, and a great idea. I'm assuming you are using different size screens keeping the biggest at the top. I've been looking for ways of fiterting my compost and this is a wonderful, practical, and inexpensive way. You have my support. ^..^
