10. Explain ‘Reference Groups’ with suitable examples.

Sir ur teaching is just at top in 8 minutes u rolled up my mind with this confused full chapter Really appreciate ur hardwork 💚💚 , but I have 3 doubts , Is social category and social group same? And in which group we place friends , primary or in - groups ? And if primary group include friend circle and primary group is a part of social group which is in quasi group (share no definite connection) but we have a connection with our friend circle . Dear Nancy, Thank you for the lovely comment. A social group is a collection of people who interact with each other and share similar characteristics and a sense of unity. A social category is a collection of people who do not interact but who share similar characteristics. Technically, friends come under the primary group, having said that, both the primary group and In-group share some common characteristics, which is why logically we can place friends in the In-group as well. and as for your last question, social groups and quasi-groups are two different things. Let me explain how: A social group is an aggregation of individual in which (a) definite relations exists between individuals composing it and (b) each individual is conscious of the group itself and its symbols. But a quasi-group may be defined as an aggregate or portion of the community (a) which has no recognizable structure or organization, and (b) whose members may be unconscious or less conscious of the existence of the grouping. In other words, a quasi-group means a number of individuals having certain characteristics in common but the body is devoid of any recognizable structure. For example, the students of a college or of a university may form a quasi-group when they do not have the advantage of their own union or an organisation of some sort. Hope this helps.
