Thanks for this video Dr. Kemp. I just bought a B&K 747B and I really enjoyed watching you demonstrate how to use it.

I also have a B&K 747. And like you my father who was a TV man gave it to me when he retired from the business. I also used to work with him starting when I was about 10 or 12 in the 1970s. I really like your video on the use of the 747.

Yea I took radio and tv electronics class in high school in Indianapolis 82~83, man we had a storage room filled with tubes people donated, I remember hoards of 12ax7's and sweep tubes there was thousands of them brand new. In the early 80's we didn't do much with tubes and I didn't think they were worth a dime. Well after I started getting into electronics in the late 90's I stopped by to see my old teacher and ask him about some tubes. He told me they trashed all of them in the early 90's, repair cases full, big boxes full, unopened cases of tubes all in the landfill. I bet it's like that everywhere.

Hi Arthur, That was a nice, relaxing and clear demo of the B&K. Thanks :) This also influed my decision; I bought a B&K 747b today! I'll add this to my Sencore TC28 that I calibrated some week ago. This is also Solid State, also very stable but only a emission tester. Well, thanks again! Have a nice day..a nice summer :) Kindly Regards, Einar H. from Norway.

Leif - I am proud to be from Raeford North Carolina. I love my hometown. I plan to return home in a few years and establish a Hammond Organ business there. That is why I am training with some of the best techs in the midwest while I am here.

Thanks for the video, I just got one of those tube testers, your video helped me make quick sense of how to use it, I have alot of guitar amps, all tube, so made sense to get one those B&K 747B testers.

Cool!!! I am glad that the video helped you in your decision. This is the tube tester my dad use to use in his Radio & TV repair shop. It is a great one. Did you have your tester calibrated? I had both of mine calibrated. It is worth the cost. Purchasing this tester was a very smart decision on your part.

I have a question. I have a B&K 707 tube tester. I tested a 12AT7 tube for shorts and emission and the meter was moving on the scale in both cases. This tube tested at 70 on the scale which was "good." Is it possible for the meter to move on the scale but the "short" light bulb not light up? The scale on my 707 is similar to your 747B. If I'm not mistaken, your 747B is an upgrade from the 707. Yes, my 707 works fine, but I never encountered this situation before.

I have a B&K 606 as well as two 747B's Tube Testers. If the meter moves while testing for shorts or emission on either of those meters, I toss it and don't go any further in my testing because doing so can harm the meter. Thanks for your question Jorge.

Hello Arthur,I have a B&K 747B Tube Tester that I purchased on eBay that is coming any day now. The seller stated it was reading low which indicates a calibration and possible repairs. My question is how often do you get your B&K 747B's calibrated? and have you had parts replaced? since these testers are about 40 years old. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you John.

Hello John!! I had both of mine calibrated 8 years ago and have been using them every since with no problems.
