I love how this whole thing reads exactly like an episode of Derry Girls, less the "girls." It's all there, the skipping school for a special event, the lie to get there, which can never work, a precious family in exactly the expected house, the unforced error, a half-cocked explanation, the clear signs of a teenage liar fumbling to cover her lie with yet more lies, the breakdown of confession, the walk of shame made somewhat less so by family, and finally learning via comments that she made it anyway. The only thing missing is a sassy nun. Bless it

What I find most surprising is that you can enter and join and participate in a whole show, where the age minimum is 18, and never actually have to give proof of your age until you say the wrong date in an interview. Only then they suddenly care to check your age? How important was the age limit in the beginning then anyway? Either you check at registration, or don't bother at all...

It’s very funny that she keeps saying “87”, not realising she’s accidentally shifted the lie the wrong way around. You’re supposed to say 83, Nadine!!
@dmlly73113 жыл бұрын
Her logic in that was that she knows what she said was a mistake and there's no going back because it's on video. So if she goes on like she said 87 like she accidentally said she was 13/14 then it's obvious she isn't so then it would be like whatever she's just stupid she meant to say 83 because there's no way she could be 13/14. Also acting like she forgot what she said by saying "I thought I said 87" makes it look like the year 85 - the year she was born - isn't significant to her in her head. It looks like what I said is a stretch but it just takes a lot to explain. And ik that didn't deserve an essay but it did bc for me psychology is interesting

A. This girl is wicked smart. She diverted the truth when she said she thought she had said " 87 ", making it less likely to appear like there was a reason " 85 " came to her mind. She said she didnt have her passport but should and looked for it, then handled the on camera phone call home like a champ, seeming to be informing her "totally unaware" mother from start to finish. B. This show handled it well. They didnt demonize her after she came clean, and even encouraged the other young people to see the courage in coming clean. Choosing to focus on the positive/difficult decision to confess and apologize over the original mistake. People do the wrong thing inevitably, its how you handle fixing your mistakes that sets you apart.
@ihtfp692 жыл бұрын
Being a liar does not make a person smart. She couldn't say 85 because that was the truth. Yes, the production team handled it very well.
@SorrySoup2 жыл бұрын
@@ihtfp69 Youre stating this like it should be obvious even to a child, when it seems the true point has entirely gone over your head. Sure, She doesnt say "85" because its her real birth year. But why say "87" when that would make her EVEN YOUNGER. Why not just say you thought you said the year on the application? because the third date diverts further from the truth while making it seem like it was unintentional to say "85" in the first place. do you understand now? Im willing to keep trying till the nuance isnt lost on you. Lying isnt an outcome of intelligence, but being a good manipulator who uses lying to their advantage with tactical implementation requires quite a bit of intelligence and forethought.

I couldn't let her find out I wasn't paying the bill, so I had to call from a payphone to get the account #. The security question was date of birth, and I always forgot if her bday was the 1st or the 2nd of Feb. When I said Feb 2nd, 1950, the woman hesitated, so I went "Feb 1st, sorry! February 1st!!" She paused and said "is this really *moms name*? I'm like "yes, sorry, got mixed up", she said "how do you not know your own bday, *moms name*, I sweated and said "we usually use my husband's birthday for security question", she hesitates again and says "your husband was born exactly 1 day after you?" "Me : "yup. Surely she knew one of her friends or school would have spoken up to tell the truth?

I think there was more of a delay in reality tv back then. It would have been likely that they would have finished filming and recorded an album before the show aired. By the time people she knew saw it air and dobbed her in it would have gone a lot further.

2023 and Graham Norton Show about the Derry girls made me look this up, if you don't want to watch the whole video fast forward to 3:56 to see Nadine say the wrong date of birth lol. But what's meant to be will be and it was! 👏👏🙏🙏 Also reminds me of the episode of only fools and horses where Rodney has to pretend he's 15 hahaha, (I wonder if Nadine's dad changed her passport and library card date of birth hahaha)
