Great bag and Stanley cup. Years ago, I lightened my BOB and turned it into an EDC bag. I ditched the redundancies and decided that mini emergencies happen way more often than zombie outbreaks. I now carry a lighter, knife, emergency cash, 2 small but good flashlights, mini charging options (wall/USB/lighter)for my cell, gum, telescopic pen, gum, etc. You reminded me that I need to refill my snacks pouch. Now I have extra room. Thanks for vid.

Six cutting tools, six fire starters, six tinders, six compasses... I think in a kit that small you'd be better off replacing a lot of those redundant items with new items that give you additional capabilities.
@ncprepper10010 жыл бұрын
You know what? I completely agree with you! I always try to follow the "two is one, and one is none" mantra, but substituting some items makes complete sense. I am ALWAYS looking for new or different gear and am always open to suggestions! I would love to hear any suggestions you have. That is what makes all of our kits better!! Thank you for your comment!

I have the Maxpedition version of that pack (which I have a video on), which is very similar to yours. I put a pair of gloves in there, a plastic drop cloth for cover, and variations of pretty much all the other stuff you have in yours. I don't carry it, it's more of a mini bugout bag.

Nice setup, I myself prefer the metal tent stakes because you can lay them across two logs with your fire underneath and create a grill top.
@ncprepper10010 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment! Normally, I would agree with the metal tent pegs, but in this case... I felt that with this bag and the situations that I put it together for... I wanted to get home as quickly as possible and not spend an extra time grilling. In my full size Get Home - Bug Out Bag, I have metal stakes in it. That is going to be the next video that I put up, which will be very soon!

Great video with lots of ideas! A couple of quick suggestions...make a list of items in the bag...points out duplicate items which will give you added room... I might suggest some form of water filter/water containers/sill cock/etc. depending upon where you live (city/urban/etc.), plus a few drink items (coffee/tea/flavored water pkts...), snacks (i.e.; nuts, protein bars, rice/pasta mixes, etc.), plus a container for cooking and a small stove of some type (esbit, firebox, etc.) just in case... A good compass and map to get home in case earthquake, natural disaster prevents you from taking your normal route... Thanks sooo much for sharing and your video gave me several great ideas! Safe and prosperous life to you and yours!

Wonder if people could learn how to leave a comment to add to videos, in such a way, that they didn’t sound like total know-it-all jerks that I hope to never run into in this real world. I would like to say that if there was a emergency situation, this guy would defiantly be glad that he added several of the same things so that he could share. I would defiantly want all of my three children who might be traveling with me to have a whistle, mini knife and compass without packing several kits, that they would probably loose or forget at home anyway. Thanks for the video.

You might want to think about compartmentalizing. Things like food items, placed in just a regular ziploc bag. Same with fire starting items (any similar items that you could group together). That cuts down on the clutter so you don't have to search through your bag to get a particular item. Also keep those altoids tins near the top, so if you find yourself in such a situation that you need to grab your GHB and hike back to the house, you toss those in a pocket. incase you get separated from your bag, you still have your survival and fire kit on your person. All that redundancy doesn't do any good if you lose it all at once cause you got separated from your bag.
@ncprepper10010 жыл бұрын
A Lot of great ideas! Thank you!! I should have mentioned in the video. I do usually keep a lot of the stuff in their own bags, but I am not the best at making videos yet and had done a lot of retakes, so I left a lot of the stuff out of the bags to make the video making less stressful. great video ... lots of useful stuff... I would add about 3 waist size of cordage with 3 key rings for the trash bags and heat sheet ready to go for quick deploying in rain/ colder areas. Wrap around ones waist to trap air inside your core and use the other 2 for arms(bags). For the heat sheet tie over the shoulders and around the waist.( cover the head if needed). You have instant space to put extra insulation you find or use the orange sham for that.

A great kit and good ideas in the comments too. l agree though there is too much redundancy in a few areas and think if you cut back a bit on that you could carry a few of the suggested items (whichever ones suit your situation) without increasing weight and still fit them in the same space. My suggestions to stream line it would be, first try to keep like items together rather than scattered through the kit (eg a fire section, a first aid section etc), second, label things like your tins so theres no guessing at contents involved if you need to find something quick or worse yet if you're injured and someone else has to find something (also a good reason for keeping things together) and third make sure you can use everything in it before you actually have to depend on it. A nice little kit that l am happy to get some new ideas from, well done. l enjoyed it.

Cool video redundancy is great , love the fact you include a map . Most of the prepping videos IV seen focus on compasses but I rarely see maps . I myself live in North Carolina and I would only change your shelter system a bit adding a waterproof tarp and a hammock , light weight and portable maybe an additional charger for your electronics . Or a small communication system . Like a pair of walkie talkies to help keep up with your children . Great video 👍 TY for sharing

I was born in North Carolina and have been to North Augusta, South Carolina, West Virginia and lived in Virginia several times. I have experienced those climates and now I am in Florida which is not that much different particularly in the central most parts away from the shore and beaches. Only thing is lots of rain at times, humidity almost all year and bugs when it's really hot. It's almost like northern woods or depending on weather and location, it can turn more tropical like Puerto Rico or the Keys. The one thing I would say to anyone, is to grab more water and food on the go and the ability to shelter seems excessive, but if I couldn't get home, I'd want something to keep me dry and a mosquito net. Nobody has mentioned it yet, but a change of clothes would be nice. And I would try to have one chopping blade, short or long machete, or even an axe to do what your belt knife isn't heavy enough to do. Even if you're just laying low for a night it would be a more comfortable and potentially less stressful night.

@ncprepper10010 жыл бұрын
I am glad that you found my video informative! You would use moleskin when you first start to notice a blister starting to form, and not after the blister has formed. You would take a sheet of moleskin, and cut a piece larger than the area where the blister is and it like a band-aid or a sticker. You peel of the paper back, and stick it to your skin over the blister, Then, the moleskin will get the friction instead of your skin.

didnt see if you had one, but you should add a small knife sharpener. I think the smiths pocket pal 2x, or whatever it is called, is a great small sharpener as it has ceramic and carbide, and a rod for serrations, also it has a whistle, ferro rod, a small light, and a removable compass. Also it is relatively inexpensive for what you get.

It does add weight but if you need them in an urban area they're invaluable. I carry small binoculars, telescopic lighted magnetic retriever, Tylenol, cough drops, all types of allergy pills, Visine, handheld CB, Yaesu VX8dr, pocket radio, fold up solar charger and many batteries. Also, cigars.

(if some of the redundancies are to share with people you may be with then the amount isn't over the top either). What I felt somewhat weak about the bag is the low level of organisation and compartmentalisation. Perhaps some small bags/cases, like pen-bags or a camera cases can help you keep things neat and organized. Some other thoughts I had: - If you plan on being with somebody, perhaps one of those foldup backpacks might come in handy to make sure a kid has the ability to carry the things needed. - I think you may be somewhat light on food, even for an 24h ordeal, if you walk and stay outdoors you will build up a healthy appetite, 4 cliffbars and a bag of nuts will feel like a meagre lunch esp. after 10miles or so. Really, imo. for a get home bag no.0 is knowing where to go; water and food are no.1; ability to make a fire no.2 (this includes processing wood); and no.3 is some way to spend the night; no.4 is a way to deal with the discomforts of walking long distance, and small/medium injuries. You covered all of these, with redundancy, apart from the organization and food, an 8/10 bag for sure.

First, I would like to thank you for your wonderful review of my Get Home Bag. I really appreciate the time that you took to watch the video, and write a very thoughtful review. Secondly, I agree with everything you said. As far as bagging up some items, I actually have some of the items in the bag in separate bags, but had taken all of the stuff out because I had to stop and start several times during the making of the video. To address the food portion of the bag, I have different amounts and types of food at different times. I also eat the food to keep it rotated ;-) I also carry more food in the car I drive everyday to supplement what I carry in the bag. In the near future, I plan to make a video of the EDC that I carry in my car at all times. The thinking behind this bag is something that I could take in my car or if I were traveling in some other mode of transportation. I actually have a larger Get Home Bag (that I plan on making a video of also) that is larger than this one, and would support me of a longer period of time. To sum it all up, this is exactly what I love about this community. We can all learn from each other and bring up things that we didn't think of and need to incorporate into our systems, then we all become more successful. Thanks again for your time!!

Hello mate, good video, the wire saw that you have is one of the cheap ones. Try getting a gibbley saw, that are about £5.00. Take care. Craig.🇮🇲

Really nice set up you have there. I used to carry a small bottle of bleach too, but I traded that in for one of those chlorine pool tablets. The bottled stuff will not last for long, but that tablet will last forever. I scrape some of the tablet off and mix it with water in the small bottle and then add a few drops until I can smell a hint of bleach in the water I want to treat. It's not an exact science, but in an emergency, I know I have a real way to treat A LOT of water in a very small package. If you get the number off of the pool tablets and call them, and tell them you're going on a missions trip and you were needing a compact way to treat large amounts of water, they are VERY helpful in steering you in the right direction. Just make sure you can name a church or missions group if they start asking a couple questions. You don't want to look like a jerk and not know the answers. They're not prying, they're just making conversation while helping you out. Keep up the great work.

I am glad that you liked the video and thanks for the useful information! I agree about the bottle of bleach. I have got some of the Katadyn tablets in another bag that I also carry with me. I also found some cool little filters that I am going to make a video of and put up pretty soon to hopefully take out the chlorine taste out of the water.

Good video, have you thought about doing a REAL ULTIMATE GHB, without duplicating anything ? on the Basis that 1 is enough and 2 is too many, eg 1 knife, 1 compass,1 lighter, 1 days food, 1 day back home. then weigh both. . .

I actually have though about that, have been slowly working towards a new bag and setup and hope to have a video about it in the near future.

How does the bag fit? Is it comfortable for actual 48 hour use? It looks like the perfect size for what I’m looking for. Also, what is the name of the Stanley “bottle” you showed? I can’t seem to find it.

Nice bag. It's good to have something that's for sure. You kept saying you are not camping and have minimum shelter/sleep items but you have a lot of fire starting materials? I'm sure this bag has changed by now though. Nice job!

cyclist01222 Thanks for watching my video. I have changed the contents some to even out some of the items and I hope to make a video of the new bag soon.

I got mine at Walmart, but I found this link on Amazon. It sells for around $10, and has been really sturdy. I really like it as well. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005189NAO/tsdr5678-20#

One thing that weighs virtually nothing - a nylon dry bag. I line the main pouch of each of my kits with a dry bag - sized to match the circumference and hanging out several inches to roll up. In this case, maybe a 5 liter bag. Keeps all your gear dry if you take a fall crossing a creek, and gives you a secondary carry pouch if you need to collect tinder or something. Never trust ANY bag to be waterproof, or even water resistant. The most foolish posts on Amazon are people complaining that they went backpacking and the gear in their lightweight pack got wet in the rain! All for the lack of a 4 oz, $9 dry bag.

I apply 2 layers of waterproofing spray to every other / emergency kit bag I have. Point taken on the inner liner bag though. One of my bags has 2 drainage (?) holes on the bottom that I only just noticed the other day. If I set it down on wet ground or trip into a wet/waterlogged ditch, it's game over on that count. Luckily I have the smaller 2.5 mil trash compactor bags on hand that I will be lining it with.

I would check on that Stanley bottle, as far as using it over a flame goes. It may be double-walled, in which case you should not use it over a flame

Nice setup. A lot of stuff in a small kit. My impression is that some of the kit is over redundant. Not to say that redundancy is bad. One is none. I would say that this kit could be tweaked a little though.

Dylan Richey I picked that Stanley water bottle up at Walmart and they still had some the last time I was there. I looked all over the water bottle and was not able to any kind of model number.

My only complaint is that you always have a compass in close proximity to a metal knife. That can make your compass unreliable

What does all this weigh? It looks really heavy. I'll bet if you dropped the duplication you could reduce the weight by 25%. Great detailed vid. Thanks.
@ncprepper1009 жыл бұрын
Stephen Wright With the water bottle full, the bag weighs 12.2 lbs. You are probably right about some of the items. I still do make changes to the bag according to where I think I will be or will be going.
