Actually, the name Jamal was given to him in Indonesia where it literally means, "handsome." But it fit our perception of him so well that it became the name some Black stans decided to continue to use. And he loves it. Have you listened to the full AY-YO repackage album yet? I truly believe you should start there. Then try then the Superhuman and Two Baddies MVs. You can wander at will after that. OH--do NOT sleep on Whiplash. Also that's a traditional Maori chant at the beginning of this song. And the word is pronounced "nay-gah" and is not what you might've thought. I believe it translates to simply "I," as in "I am..." Which is why you hear it so often. It stuns lots of people when they first hear it.

oh so jamal is used as handsome in Indonesian !! that’s interesting to me as an arabic speaker (which is the origin of the word jamal) as i always assumed fans called him jamal = beauty in arabic (literal translation) and thought it fitted jaehyun so well🤣 istg sometimes i think i need to start learning y’alls language just bc of how fun it be looking on the Indonesian ncity side on x 😭

actually Jamal is a name given to Jaehyun by Indonesian fans. It's an Arabic name that's used a lot in Indonesia because it's a majority muslim country lol

Just making sure: in korean there are two words "naega" (I, me) and "nega" (you), so to differentiate them, they pronounce the second one as "niga" but that just means "you" and the whole population of Korea says it like that. Please, PLEASE you need to check out Punch. Is also one of my favorites along with Simon Says and the whole NeoZeon album (mad dog and sit down! uffff)

Thank you for reacting. Jamal is a name given to him from Indonesia but we all loved it so much so it's the nickname that has stuck the most but if the shoe fits... We never thought you had a crush on him lol we just said you liked him as a bias because you point him out in almost every video & you've mentioned liking his vocals & raps that's what a bias is. When we bias someone it's not only for visuals but more so because their talent & or personality stand out to us the most. Sometimes you mention him more then Mark so that's why we thought you biased Jaehyun at least as a wrecker.

Damn, this really takes me back. “Simon Says” and NCT U’s “Boss” were the first NCT music videos I watched, and I also went, “wtf” when I first heard what turned out to be the Korean words for “you” and “I.” 😂 (I’ll tell you, you haven’t lived until you’ve watched a middle-aged Black woman try to dance to the chorus of this song. Aww, man… 🤣) I loved “Simon Says” right away, but 127 songs tend to grow on you, mainly because the vocals are so good.

As people have said in the comments that Jamal was a nickname given to him and it has stuck since, so whenever he engage in light skinned activities its Jamal acting up again 😂😂. Definitely check out some NCT U mvs 7th Sense, Boss, Universe.

Yes...127 all hv Indonesian name but only Jaehyun name stick...sometimes Jungwoo call him Jamal...i find dat funny...cos boy cannot pronounce the western L...korean L is pronounced different.
