They have live clips, Be There For You and Life Is Still Going On/ANL where you can really get a grasp of how good they are vocally and how strong the rappers are. Also they have some on their new album called Teddy Bear that I think you'd vibe with

"Chewing Gum" is NCT-Dream's debut song, so you are right, they are very young in this MV. Mark is the oldest at 17, so he is the"leader" of this sub-unit and Jisung is the youngest at 14. NCT-Dream includes Mark (17), RenJun, (16), Jeno (16), Haechan (16), Jaemin (16), Chenle (14) and Jisung (14). SM originally created this sub-unit with the idea that If they had a trainee that they felt was ready to debut even though they were really young, they would start out as a member of NCT-Dream. They were the cute babies of the group who were learning the ropes and honing their skills because they are young, but they are also some of the most talented because they debuted way sooner than a lot of trainees. Jisung is the one who had the dance break. He is the main dancer of NCT-Dream and one of the best dancers in NCT. He is actually known for his popping an locking skills and for the fact that he is sort of a mini Taemin. Jisung pretty much took the exact same path as an SM trainee as Taemin did and Taemin says he sees a lot of his younger self in Jisung. Both Jisung and Taemin became trainees around age 11 and they both debuted at age 14, they both have similar dancing styles and they both pretty much sacrificed their childhood to become an Idol, etc. Fun fact: Although Mark is young here, he is the same age as you saw him in NCT-U's "The 7th Sense" and in NCT-127's "Fire Truck" -- which were each sub-unit's debut songs. All three of these songs and MVs came out within a couple of months of each other in 2016. But because of the different concepts and styles of the songs, you get a chance to see how versatile Mark really is as an artist and how he can embrace all sides of himself -- he changes up his style depending on which group he is with at the time. The guy who is playing the school's head student or leader in this MV, is not a member of NCT -- as far as I know he is just an actor. (He's not supposed to be much older than them because he is also a student.) You definitely need to check out NCT-Dream's hoverboard version of "Chewing Gum." They have special choreography that incorporates the use of hoverboards and it's really impressive, kzbin.info/www/bejne/onPCpHaVlL5pfcU. As you saw with "Chewing Gum," they started out with a very young and cute concept that fit the fact that they were all teenagers. But over the years their style and concept has grown and evolved like the members of the group. The whole point of the song and the concept of the group is to appeal to fans in their age group. Kpop is full of young groups who are trying to appeal to an older, more mature audience. So I think SM Entertainment was pretty clever to created this sub-unit as a way to appeal to a younger demographic. Why not market music to a younger audience? I think it's kind of refreshing that SM decided to start NCT-Dream out with more of a family-friendly concept because all the members were actually still children. NCT-Dream's "My First and Last" is kind of like the Kpop version of the 1980s song "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen or 2003's "Stacy's Mom" by the American rock band Fortunes of Wayne. LOL. And some even compare it to "Replay" by SHINee. Because all of these songs are about teenagers having a crush on an older woman. :D In "My First and Last" the boys all have a crush on their teacher, but in the end they discover that she is already married -- hence the man you see come to pick her up at the end of the day -- and she even has a baby -- as you see with the baby on board plaque in the car window. She couldn't be any further from unavailable. "We Go Up" came out in 2018 and it was originally meant to be Mark's NCT-Dream graduation song. As you might have noticed, he is kind of highlighted in this MV and a lot of the MV looks like the members are just hanging out and partying, etc. Some of the scenes in the MV are actually the members just celebrating Mark's last MV with the NCT-Dream members and the members saying goodbye to him as their leader, etc. That's why this song and MV is full of feels. Mark had recently turned 19 right before their "We Go Up" comeback, so that is why this was a graduation celebration. NCT's overall concept is based on dreams, so everything they do has something to do with being in a dream, dreaming or some sort of dream state, etc. And it's all connected to SM's Universe storyline that connects all the company's groups and artists storylines together. In "Glitch Mode" NCT- Dream is comparing falling in love to being stuck in a video game. Thoughts of that person that they have a crush on make them feel like they are stuck like a glitch in a malfunctioning video game, and they can't break free or move on because the glitch keeps them stuck there. (Which is why the choreography has them making those stuttering movements. They use video game terms throughout the song.) Yes, the MV and their live stages look like a video game or arcade, etc. because the whole concept is supposed to be video game themed. A video game is a sort of dream-like world which is how it's tied into NCT's dream concept. Switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of a song as part of the dance break section is pretty much how all of NCT's songs are structured, as well as the majority of SM Entertainment's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. NCT was created as part of SM's plan to achieve global domination and one of the ways the company plans to accomplish that is to make music that reaches all types of fans all over the world, including younger fans. As you are starting to discover, as you go along and see some of NCT-Dream's more recent material, you see and hear how their style as grown and changed over time. That is also part of the group's concept. As the members grow and mature so to does there sound and style. They had to grow and mature into the sound you hear in "Glitch Mode." SM's no dummy when it comes to creating groups that gain global popularity. It just goes to show you why it's one of the Big 3 entertainment companies in the world. :D Instead of creating a group with a sound and style like everyone else, why not do something a little different? This was a great concept for a debut. By keeping their style and sound young, light and fun, NCT-Dream became popular because they were different then all the other groups that were out there at the time. Fans appreciated them for the fact that they embraced their age and didn't try to act and sound older than they were. As you may know, NCT-Dream is NCT's third sub-unit, which began in August 2016, and it is made up of the 7 youngest members of the 23 member group. All the Dream member's are currently between the ages of 20 and 22 years old. The way NCT-Dream originally was designed to work was that the members were part of the group until they turn 19 and become an adult. SM's original plan was that when the members turned 19 they were supposed to graduate from the group and they were no longer considered a member of NCT-Dream. Mark (who is also a member of NCT-U, NCT-127 -- the only NCT member to debut as part of all of NCT's first 3 sub-units -- and SuperM) "graduated" from NCT-Dream in 2018, and Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin and RenJun we thought would be graduating in 2019 and become a member of a new sub-unit or be added to a unit that already existed. (Which would have left NCT-Dream with only 2 members, with the idea that new trainees would probably debut sometime in 2020 and become members of NCT-Dream.) However, SM announced at the beginning of 2020 that they decided to make NCT-Dream a permanent group and suspend the whole "graduation" concept, including putting Mark back in the group.

My favorite Dream track for a long time was *'Go'* , but was edged out by *'Hello Future'* last year. 😄 While Go is much more my usual taste (darker/tougher)... 'Hello Future' is the perfect representation of Dream's concept up until now. We've seen more sides to them than this, but as a whole 'Hello Future' really nails the bright youthful expression that they've typically had since debut.

I would love if you reacted to the rest of their MVs!! (we young, go, boom, ridin, hot sauce). Sm defaulted to Mark and Haechan in the first couple of songs. My personal belief is that when Mark 'graduated' from the group, the other members were more determined and allowed to step up a bit more. So when Mark came back, everyone grew into their positions and SM trusted the other members a bit more and allowed them to shine :)
