Ran into this rabbit hole in my research and was going to go with hikvision for my cameras with blue iris for residential use as a first time install but now I’m skeptical about securing my network. What’s your opinion on secured hardware / firmware of these cameras and the chance of their being a backdoor in place? I haven’t found resources for definitive proof of those cameras being unsecured with secure networking practices. Ie; Even with blocking the cameras from the internet, a good firewall, utilizing a service like glasswire to monitor if data is sent and vpning in for remote view with geo restrictions and not utilizing any interior cameras. It’s difficult for me to find my moral ground on this topic for residential use in America and the rest of my security practices.
