Hello there! I'm back! And so happy to share one more video with you. Throwback to Westworld season 1, remember the last episode? Well if not, maybe this incredible piece arranged from Radiohead will do the trick. In Westworld, this piece begins as a piano/violin duet but I chose to do the entirety piano solo. I'm currently spending most of the time on my music projects, including this KZbin channel, so hopefully I'll manage to upload more regularly. If you want more info, head over to my www.patreon.com/ndg ;) Anyway, in the near future, you'll see some Witcher (hype), maybe a bit of Star Wars (less hype but hey good music), and other Westworld pieces I finished! Have a very nice day & see you soooooooon Notes and details about the arrangement! 0:15 you can see/hear one of the challenge right from the start: managing both the theme (high notes) with the accompaniment (bass + middle part). Basically, here I play the full piano accompaniment + the violin part. You see me switching hands for the middle voicing: it's because I'm reading the sheet and haven't really learned this part by heart, so I improvise the fingering on the go 1:03 in this whole first part, there are actually some tricky parts: some quick but delicate jumps, some notes that you need to hold, some that you don't... In fact, sight-reading this "easy" part is not that easy! 2:18 each pianist has its own technique. I'm quite happy with the one I acquired (thanks teacher!), but I discovered via watching myself on KZbin that I sometimes flatten my fingers (left hand), which is a big no-no in my opinion... Generally, the more you curve you fingers/hand, the more control and strength you have 2:25 I love this piece in the same way I love others epics like Light of the Seven or Night King: a deceptively calm and easy first section, then everything goes south! In terms of video making, it's interesting in the way that the listener (you) has to watch the beginning before being "rewarded" by the real showcase in the middle! 2:30 this low C# must be the most fun "in-your-face" note of this piece 3:00 once you've got the patterns and chords in your head/fingers, this part is actually quite easy, every big movements on the piano is easier with anticipation and here, plenty of time to move the hand (for that part at least...) 3:24 here, you've got half a second to breath before tackling the insane last part. Important thing is to fully release the sustain. If you have enough reverb, releasing the sustain sounds amazing! 3:25 best thing about this track: bringing the Radiohead together with the famous Westworld arpeggio! The original "Westworld" arpeggio is a Minor-Major 7th chord. So in B minor, that means B-D-F#-A# (then B again) 3:25 I almost gave up on this orchestration (and thought about changing the whole arrangement of chords + arpeggios) but thankfully I found a fingering that helped me play the chords after the fast arpeggios: when I'm about to play a chord (every 4 beats or sometimes every 2), I do a basic piano trick: thumb crossing. I'm not ashamed to admit that I practiced waaay too long without this tremendously helpful (and obvious) technique. Sometimes you've got to step back and prepare the sheets before playing! 3:55 my favorite part of the arrangement! The middle part is now one octave up and plays the original Westworld arpeggio. With the extreme high chords and low basses, the whole thing sounds incredibly powerful. I've enhanced this feeling by bringing the volume and the reverb up in the mastering ;)

This is one of my most beloved pieces from Westworld and you nailed it perfectly. Those harmonies are keeping every detail from 2 even 3 instruments that are played in parallel in original and it is astonishing to see how you manage to play all of them at the same time on the piano

"I Promise" is a very good choice, I may tackle it but looking at my schedule, I think I'll keep it for season 3! For "Codex", love that piece but the solo strings articulations are very complex and won't translate well for piano I think. Thank you Danai!

Another great arrangement! Even though the strings are great in the original, I’m glad you did this one only on piano. Definitely on my list of songs to try and learn. Looking forward to your future videos, and hey, maybe the last few Star Wars movies aren’t so great, but I highly recommend The Mandalorian. Fun show and Ludwig Göransson’s made some great music for it. Also, if you ever get the chance, I still highly recommend the God of War (2018) soundtrack. Anyway, thanks again!

Oh! The Mandalorian is a good idea! Even though I don't have a subscription, I think I'll binge with the free trial for the last episode :) about God of War, even though I heard so much good thing about it, I still need to play it before considering arranging it and secondly, it has been released quite some time ago (I'll try to be up-to-date for my future covers). Thank you for the great suggestions!
