January 7, 2023, me and my childhood friends, Jubilee Mejorada, Mailyn Anagap Enide. Vincent Agda, and Ric Anunciado went for a road trip to North Davao Mining Corporation (NDMC). It was a copper mining company located in Amacan, Maco, Davao De Oro which was in operation from 1974 to 1992 where our parents used to work.
NDMC established a Town Site for its employees and provided basic facilities like housing, a hospital, school, religious center, community center (basketball court and tennis court), children's playground, wet market, and mini-grocery store (Buenas Supermarket branch). It was a community where everything we needed was available for free like electricity, water, education and medical needs.
This trip was very special because we went to visit the place where we used to live and basically grew up together. It has been 30 years since we left Amacan 1992. We were the last elementary graduates from the so called NDMC-SFI (NDMC School Foundation Inc.). We belong to Grade 6 Ruby, hence we call ourselves Rubies '92.
