The best thing about you and your channel, Matt, are the comments on your videos. Almost everyone wants to know where to get the lures you throw, where you’re fishing, what your reel/line/knot is. What you prove every time is you know how to read the water and you understand bass behavior. Everyone wants the result, but most don’t know the details and won’t put in the work.

There’s lots of time spent on the water that doesn’t end up on video. Paddling a mile or two to the spot, trying to figure out the fish, and hitting new spots that aren’t always productive. It can be a lot of work but it’s all worth it when you have an awesome day of fishing or find a new lake with some big ones!

Watching this channel made me really want a kayak. And so I started shopping for kayaks. Im entry level so naturally for me I wanted the best budget kayak... This led me to lifetime, pelican, walmart, tractor supply. I had a really fun time shopping for the kayak. In the end, I went with a pelican rally 100xp from Walmart. Not the best choice, but a cheap entry level boat that is capable of holding 300 pounds was the best I could do. Nevermind the fact that I am actually 312 pounds, but let's solve one problem at a time. Ok, now I needed to figure out how I was going to transport this kayak using my ford ecosport, I actually thought the pre installed rails would save me time and effort in the end. They did not, instead I am now finding it near impossible to get a roof rack. I first tried amazon, undeliverable. Tried tractor supply, walmart, harbor freight, they all have universal racks meant for round rails lifted up from the roof of the vehicle. My vehicle had them molded in. I will not be deterred. I will one day be getting my roof racks, I don't care if I have to whittle them out of wood and bolt them in. Im gonna get it done. Then I will get to look for kayaks, by that time it will probably be mid winter and i can score a pretty good deal on a sit on top fishing kayak, maybe even get a hobbie on the cheap. Then.... I can finally fish. After I learn how to kayak.

Don’t remember the model, but he got a Hobie with a pedal drive last year. He’s said it take a little more setup, which is why he doesn’t use it in some places. I imagine he’s also very used to the Wilderness Systems Tarpon in this video. Having a Radar 115 with a pedal drive, I know in a lot of rivers the pedal drive can be more trouble than it’s worth if there are unseen boulders and the like. Otherwise, it’s great aside from getting the propellor tangled in surface weeds, if they’re around.
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 5 ай бұрын
I have a Hobie Compass and honestly I start getting frustrated and missing my Tarpon every time I take it out. Yesterday I was dragging about ten feet of weeds with my rudder, which barely worked, pretty much all day after pulling my drive unit up about a dozen times to pull the weeds off. All I could think was I don’t have to deal with this in a paddle kayak. Most of the spots I fish are less than a mile across with lots of weeds. A pedal kayak is completely unnecessary. The one thing I do really like the Hobie for is stability for standing up but most of the time I like to keep it light and simple and not have to lug a bunch of gear around.

man those fish are playing left field on those. soon as it hits the water BAM! gotta ask as well how come you tie the knot you do? (definitely not a criticism) it clearly works well for you, you are efficient at it and it can hold big toothy critters. I tie a palomar knot myself with similar success i feel just seems easier to me. but ive never tied your knot so i was curious if there was an advantage im missing out on
@bobrich1950
@bobrich1950 5 ай бұрын
I used a palomar knot for quite a while myself. Have used "Matt's" knot on and off for many years as well. Still do again now. For me, the palomar knot leaves the tag end pointing at you, which i thought caused it to catch more gunk on the retreive. The one Matt uses(and myself), has the tag end pointing away from you. Catches less gunk, easier to tie, and wastes less line as you've seen here. Just my observations. Might work for you as well??
@ndyakangler
@ndyakangler 5 ай бұрын
I’ve tied the Trilene knot since I was a kid so I can do it without even looking. I also lose less line to the tag end with a Trilene compared to a Palomar, especially with bigger lures I have to make a bigger loop to go around.

Thanks again for a great video, Matt - I was gonna suggest removing one of those hooks. That's what I do with some of those little piles of hardware.

You have to be hitting every estate sale, going out of business sale, and garage sale in a 2,000-mile radius. To find those lures, some of them I owned in my youth.

Somebody sent me this one and a few others but I’ll do a lot of searching on EBay over the winter months.

Where do you buy your lures? I like this one and there was another one that I like that you used in a previous video of yours and that one was a frog with spinning legs.

This one was sent to me from someone who watched my vids but couldn’t get out and fish much any more. The weird ones I’ll usually have to get from EBay.

Rather than the nickname that everyone has been calling you for as long as ive been subscribed, I'm going to call you "Crazy Lures." But, i guess they're not so crazy if they work! It's always a question of "what's he gonna have this week?" 😆

That's funny a version of that same style lure bought from Temu has been shown on a few other channels with less than stellar results. Though none of the other channels mentioned instructions. I'm betting the MegaBass version is the exact lure just rebranded for them.

Yeah the one I remember seeing a year or two ago was on a Temu ad. I didn’t realize mega bass made one until someone sent me a few odd lures to try.

Nope, nothing close to what Megabass offers. The Megabass Cicada lure is a finesse topwater crawler that is less then 2" long and weighs 1/4oz and works great in BFS gear or a spinning rod. Megabass call it the Grand Siglett. The only relation this lure has to Siglett is some crappy Chinese company printed the name "Megabass" on the box of a crappy lure to try to make it look better. And sadly @ndyakangler has fallen into the trap.

What kind of forceps do you use? I have bought a couple of different sets and they both seem a little flimsy.

Mine are made by Umpqua. They have a newer version on Amazon that are really nice, I have one in my garage for rigging up.
