Police in riot gear arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the University of Southern California after ordering the large crowd to disperse. The first amendment is freedom of speech and assembly in public spaces. If they are on private property, they can be trespassed. If you are asked to leave and don’t, you can be arrested. They should be in Washington DC on the mall, in front of congress, in front of the White House protesting. A university can’t do anything about stopping the bombing of Gaza. But the US government can. They should be protesting US military aid to Israel. A big problem is that people under 25 notoriously don’t vote-so they are ignored by the government. This is getting a lot of airtime but doing absolutely nothing to change policy.

Protesting is one thing. In my generation we marched against South African apartheid and our university's divestiture. HOWEVER. This is not the case when you are occupying university land and setting up tents. Then you are squatters and you should be removed. Freedom of speech and the right to protest is not to be confused with making a fashion statement / have something to post on social media. I do not believe these children have actually thoughts of the consequences. Bad press does not help their cause.
