Nearly 4,000 new nurses to be hired by the end of 2023

Close to 4,000 new nurses are expected to be progressively brought on board by the end of next year, as part of measures to replace talent lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung shared this at an awards ceremony on Nov 21, calling the number significant as it makes up about 10 per cent of the current nursing workforce.

How about we work more on retaining existing nurses, by ensuring 'safer' staffing, better wages as well as better welfare for nurses. It's good that they attempting to bring in more nurses, but taking care of the current nurses in the force is extremely important as well. If the government and relevant bodies are doing more to take care of the existing nurses, I am sure that we might not need that many new nurses. Just my 2 cents.

Lao... it’s coz you all Singaporeans dowan to become nurses ok.... Low pay, high workload... But, to be honest, nurses is a good job if you’re a mediocre person and you dream of migrating....of course, I know, nobody wants to admit that they/their children are mediocre.. But sometimes you just have to be honest with yourselves you get what I mean? It’s super easy for nurses to get a job overseas.... I wouldn’t mind it if my daughter is a nurse... Better to become a nurse rather than air stewardess/insurance seller/marketer/real estate agents/admin staff..etc, with these type of jobs, your chances of a better life abroad should you wish to migrate is next to zero... it doesn’t even matter if you’re a senior manager in HR/Marketing, you will never get a decent job if you move overseas, the best job you could get Is that you could work as a general admin staff, and that’s it...
