Would be interesting to see how much a regular upright vacuum picks up after running both of them in your video. In my house the upright picked up a lot of dirt and debris after using the roomba for 7 days, once a day.

Nice! I actually just picked up a iRobot for myself when it was on sale for black friday, it seems pretty good! Apart from the occasional shutting itself down when it gets too far. Have you ever done a pet tag video? Where you show all your pets and explain a little bit about them and where you got them? I'd love to see that on your channel sometime if you have the time!

We love this robot🌼 This is the best robot vacuum I've ever encountered. It's a bit loud as we use it on wood and tile floors mostly, but it's methodical and I love the mapping features. I can tell my google home to run the vacuum and it just starts up and is on it's way to get all the crap off the floor. Sometimes, it gets caught on some cats toys on the floor, but not as often as you'd think given all the toys we have on the floor. Truly amazing robot.

The Neato sucks up dust into every little cranny rather than its bin and needs regular extra maintenance (laser sights, bumper). The Neato side brush failed and requires a belt change, but I couldn’t disconnect the battery clip or get a security torx to fit. In comparison my previous Roomba 500 series was really easy to fix although less efficient. Upgrading to a Roomba E6 on sale because that side brush is important and the battery will fail eventually.

Cool video! I bought myself a Roomba 980 for a 'Treat yo' self' gift, and it's been pretty impressive. It navigates more like the Neato using a low res camera on top that angles forward 45 degrees. It's more efficient than the old randomized movements the Roombas had. The app is fine too but not necessary. The dirt extractors are lower maintenance than the old brushes. I will say that the D75 has a wider front brush, larger dust bin, and can work in zero light due to laser navigation. Suction seems more powerful roo. It's also cheaper than the Roomba, but I worry about its long term reliability.

+John Taylor Had my bovac for over a year. Still working just like new! I am curious how the suction compares to the roomba 900 series. For now, no reason to upgrade or buy anymore robots, the botvac truly is good enough to replace a normal upright.

have a roomba 650 and I adore it, I'm considering getting a botvac d80 to supplement it to ensure total coverage of my home. I feel like the roomba is better at hitting dirty areas but obviously can miss full coverage. as an owner of both do you run them both? do you feel they both serve a function in your "fleet"? thanks
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 9 жыл бұрын
+brandicus I would have to say the botvac kicks roombas ass (at least for 700 roombas and lower). My roomba 530 is upgraded with the 700 series brush system and 600 series bin. I upgraded just a few months before this video, so my 'frenken roomba' is basically a brand new 600/700 model. It does very well, however, the botvac totally destroys it. Picks up more, gets everywhere, better suction by far, etc.. Sure, botvac only gets every spot of your floor once per run, but you can run it daily and get every single spot. Roomba bounces around and may get 5 places once, and other places 0 times. And the botvac does better with one pass than my roomba does in over 2 runs. Now, roomba now has a 900 series with camera and room mapping. It may be awesome... but, it also cost a lot more than my $350 botvac. I have owned roombas since around 2005, and have been very loyal to the brand... but now I have had this botvac over a year, and it still works like new. Haven't had a single problem (didn't have problems with my roombas either). But it is just amazing how good the suction is compared to 700 and lower roombas. I would recommend checking them out. The D models should be nice, basically same as my botvac but they say they changed the brushes a bit or something. Look same to me, but mine as well get the D model if you can for good price. If you see a standard botvac model like the one I have for a lowered sale price, go for it! Really great! I am sad to say this because I have been a roomba fan boy for 10 years, and I still love my roombas; but, the botvac beats it in every way.
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 9 жыл бұрын
Also, to mention. If you get a botvac, remember they are all the same exact thing. The only difference is the accessories they come with. The lower models come with standard filters and standard rubber brush. Higher models get combo brush and hepa filters. Look around and decide what model to get, and buy the accessories separately for less. I got the lower model, and I just purchased the combo brush which is better for carpets. I haven't tried the standard brush yet, my combo brush that I upgraded to has lasted over a year now, standard brush just sitting in box. I also prefer the standard filters. The hepa filters are very hard to clean. The standard filters you can use your high pressure sink spray nozzle and just blow them out, let them dry, and reuse. I have air filters in my house, I don't care if the filter doesn't catch every little particle, plus, this provides more airflow and more suction and more pickup! So again, just know they are all the same, the model numbers just change accessories.

+Earthling1984 been doing some research in the neatos, I believe the d line of botvacs have a sealed bearing system for minimal maintenance and more powerful suction. I've found a local deal on a new d85 for $300. I just bought a new roomba 650 less than a week ago for $200. I'm confident I could get my money back on the roomba if I wanted to.. but I really like the little guy and an wondering if they both have a justification to work alongside each other.

lifescience2050 I'm with you on this. Any of the dirt picked up on the Neato's 2nd run was missed on it's 1st run. The Neato gets kudos for it's 2nd chance and the Roomba didn't even get a 2nd chance? It's apples and oranges and not an equal controlled comparison, no matter how many times you're told to rewatch it and listen closer.

Do you guys ever vacuum? The neato makes a SINGLE pass. It is meant o be run very often to get everything deep in the carpet. I have 2 cats and a dog that track in a lot and shed. Even if you don't have pets, but, you have lots of carpet, you will basically always get lots of 'lint' in the vacuum. It seems to me you guys have either no carpet, or, hardly ever vacuum.

My only thing with this video is- the Neato looks brand spanking new. The irobot looks like it's seen better days. I have had dyson vacuums and my brand new one picks up a lot more than my 6 year old one because a) technology has advanced and b) daily use (despite cleaning filters often, ect) still wears machines out. I'm not really sure it's a fair comparison

+Earthling1984 Also the white roomba I put new brush system in (700 model brush kit) as well as upgraded the bin and vacuum motor to the 600 series upgrade. Also out in stronger and longer lasting litium battery. So although the roomba is an older 530 model, it's actually like a brand new 600/700 hybrid model that was just upgraded before this video. So very good test of two new robots at the time. Botvac has been much better in all ways. I love roombas, had them for over a decade, but, the neati botvac is just way better and for a lower cost! Irobot does have a new like $900 model, but I'll stick with my $350 botvac until it breaks; as for now it's like new and picks up as good as my upright dyson.

I had the 400 series of roomba and I also have the neato. xv25. They both have their pros and cons but overall I like my neato better. I had to clean the brush on the roomba after every cleaning (running it every day), With the neato I have to clean the brush once a week. Maybe twice during shedding seasons for my dogs. The neato vac is a fair bit stronger than the roomba. I have had issues with the neato though. I have went through 3 sets of batteries in two years. I was averaging one a year with the roomba.

Check out the new lithium power batteries for roombas! I put one in my 500 series and it is just amazing! More suction power and longer runs. They make one for the 400 series also. I love the roombas, and yes, like you, my botvac sucked more up. But we are both comparing years older roombas to newer botvacs. I am not sure how the 880 series would fair against this but probably much better. What I do know, is like you, I really like them both. And as long as all I need for the Neato is batteries and filters for years to come then I will be happy and continue to purchase new products from this brand.

@earthling1984 9 жыл бұрын
The Tyttuutface Both neato and roomba I do the same to. Empty bin, vacuum filter, and use a knife to cut any long hairs off of brush after each run (brush sometimes every other run). Exact same maintenance for both. The botvac is the winner hands down in suction power and getting up more small particles. The roombas work great, but don't get as deep of a clean, and sometimes miss areas due to their random movements.

Earthling1984 Our Neato had a chunk of hair get stuck in the brush drive belt, and it just kept saying the brush was stuck until I managed to pull it free. We disused it for so long that it actually became dusty itself...

Nope. I've reused the same filter for like 4 months! They have never actually gone bad or broken. I just replace them after a while (they are super cheap if you get a bulk pack of off brand online). But, all you need to do is spray off the filter with a sink spray nozzle (or strong shower head, or, outdoor hose). Can use them over and over.

+MaximoHomeAuto I have heard the 900 series are better. My 500 upgraded to 600 series is good, but the botvac kicks it ass. I would bet the 980 would be a vast improvement. It also is more expensive than botvac though. I would have to see if better or not. Botvac pretty amazing so far. Had it for months and it truly does work as good as a normal vac.
@maximohomeauto5044
@maximohomeauto5044 9 жыл бұрын
+Earthling1984 yeah the Neato line is definitely good as well. And even though the older series of roomba's random movements were okay. The 980's navigation system is similar to that of Neato's. But much more efficient, trust me if you happen to upgrade. You will be satisfied.
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 9 жыл бұрын
I don't see how it can be more efficient. Neato gets literally everywhere in my home. I'll look up how it may be different or better; however, like I said, neato gets everywhere.
@maximohomeauto5044
@maximohomeauto5044 9 жыл бұрын
+Earthling1984 Well, It automatically raises power on carpets and decreases power on hard floors. And it also has the option from the app to enable 2 passes over your floor plan or just 1. You can also enable performance mode and such. And what I mean by efficient is that it navigates my home pretty quickly while still being thorough. I can't give a full opinion, but from what I saw with the Neato. Is that it moves significantly slower than the roomba, not saying it doesn't pick up as much. But the roomba can still clean thoroughly in a short amount of time. That's mostly what I meant.
@earthling1984
@earthling1984 9 жыл бұрын
Neato does my home in a little over an hour. I don't care for speed, these robots are for working when you are away :) Slower could also mean better pickup on first run :) If I want to run neato twice, I just run it twice during the day, or daily if i want. I think the more power on carpet is kinda a gimmick. I prefer full power all the time, and my floors are mostly carpet anyways. I find I only need to run it about 2 times a week. 2 passes is nice to schedule I guess is very dirty floors. Not saying roomba is bad. I have owned roombas for about 10 years, and just recently got a botvac. But so far, botvac has won. I do hope to try out the newer roomba series at some point. Botvac is coming out with a new 'connect' series where it is controlled by phone app as well :)

That sounds right. But, I did upgrade it. It has the upgraded bin and brushes from the 600/700 series. I think the bin was the 600 series and the brushes the 700 series. And lithium battery. Love roombas and I still use them, but, I've had the botvac now for almost 2 years and it simply kicks ass! Still works like new and it picks up just so much; it's amazing how much it picks up.
