This was the very first song I heard on my first real HiFi stereo, in my room at 13, in 1983. I was blown straight to the Moon at the sound of that guitar intro. The seperation, the clarity, the power. There was no turning back from there. I was offically an audiophile.

Hope you have heard some of the bands fantastic earlier work, as , I'm sorry ,I couldn't stand this song , mainly cos of those stoopid synth samples in the song that bands of that era were experimenting with and seemed all the rage.. Best part , which does sound awesome,... The intro

I first heard this song in Arcadia CA in January 1984 when I was a teenager visiting from Australia to march in the Rose Bowl Parade. I can still listen to this music today and it instantly transports me back in time. I really admire the vocal hook, the simple but effective bass guitar riff, the improv in the interlude and the mix of drum and guitar sounds. Long live the power of music!

@@alukuhito Yes, right you are. And there were a lot of better songs than this one. And more than that, I agree with @Misa Velvet: Yes had made great prog rock albums in the first half of the Seventies. Why on earth did they have to play this cheap pop tune in 1983? I didn't like it back then, and I still don't like it.
@alukuhito
@alukuhito 3 жыл бұрын
@@PeterSpaeter96 I come back to this video for the visuals. I don't actually mind this music. I also like the duet the singer did with Gowan - Moonlight Desires - in the 80s, but 70s Yes was mind-blowing. You need to be in the right mood for it though. If you want something short and catchy to sing along to, better listen to something else. But, yeah, tons of crap music in the 80s. I don't even want to begin to start listing all that stuff.
@dystopian2153
@dystopian2153 2 жыл бұрын
@@alukuhito I think they mean that now there's so much trash on the radio(mainstream music) that it's hard to find any good melodies. The singers sing weird and the music is obnoxious. In the 80s, 90s and early 2000s there were some great on the radio. Now you have to go to you tube or dig thru Spotify to find really great artists. To hear a great mainstream masterpiece is very rare now.

2022! As a kid I used to hear this song and liked it immediately- a different sound from most of the rest, catchy hook, easy melody- as a little kid the lyrics were mostly over my head (I was 7 at the time it came out) but I wanted to hear it every time it came on! That hasn't changed. I never saw the video til very recently; though I grew up in the MTV era, we were in bed by the time MTV was in full swing (8pm, so early right?) so I never saw it as a kid.

Those were the best days, to be there alive as a teenager in the 1980s was very special and the music is unrivaled, it was the evolution of the analog masters of the 60s and 70s reaching its peak. I don't know what happened in the 1990s with the introduction of hip-hop, reggae, and rap everything went into a nosedive.

Hip-hop, reggae, and rap all pre-date the 90s. Bob Marley started in the 60s; Yellowman has been active since 1974. Hip-hop has been around since at least the 70s. I’m not sure how perfectly good genres that had been around for a while sent the 1990s, “…in a nosedive.” I was a teenager in the 90s, and my biggest problem with that decade was every record exec trying to find the next Nirvana.

My neighborhood was erected in 1983. An old high school buddy of mine had this album; Yes's 90215 in the late 1990s. I remember hearing this wonderful song on the radio in the 1980s all the time and it always got me. The riff, the singing, the message, and the playing are timeless and Yes.
