Nebraska Mule Deer - 2020 DIY rifle hunt - Pine Ridge Unit

Along with my son Cody, and buddies Carl and Ben, we all ventured to Nebraska to hunt Mule Deer for the very first time. We managed to secure a 6000 acre private property for the first 4 days and spent the rest hunting Nebraska Public Land. None of it was easy, but we had a great trip, seen some new and beautiful country, and spent time with good friends. And oh yeah.......we did go 4 for 4.

Great video! We are headed to Nebraska pine ridge unit this November! Trying to watch all the videos and read all the posts about the area. Can’t wait to get out there, appreciate you guys posting this!

We did the same thing. Not a lot out there for videos. You got access to private or hunting public?

No there really isn’t much out there hopefully we can make a successful one to add to them! No access to private so we are going to try our luck with public land, looks like there is a good amount in the area

@@tagoutcrew tons of land. We got lucky sending out letters in the spring and got 4 day access to 6000 private acres. There were plenty of hunters but with some work I think you can find some quiet spots. The areas of public we hunted the last few days had great sign and we did see some shooters.

I thought about doing that, but without actually having boots on the ground out there I thought it would be hard picking areas. I figured we would get out there a few days early try our luck at some fall turkey hunting while we scouted and the jump right into deer hunting. We will be there for the whole week rifle season so hopefully that gives us the time we need to make something happen!

@@b-man1232 it's changed to draw now instead of OTC, and tags allocated have dropped drastically. I think the unit we hunted was 1200 first come first serve for rifle. Now I think they have 180 allocated for gun, archery and muzzleloader through a draw system, for mule deer anyway

@@b-man1232 yeah I'm pretty sure. Even where we hunted the whitetail population was pushing the mulies out. My son's buck was a hybrid. Muley body and whitetail rack. My buddies still go every year and just focus on whitetail

How do you deal with the audio? external gopro mic set up or separate recording matched up in post?

@@highbchunting the GoPro 8 has options for media mods and one of them is for enhanced microphone. It does have a jack that you can plug in a mic. But the mod itself I was impressed with how much more it picks up all on its own. Main reason I bought it was for improved quiet interviews while hunting and it works great!

We did! Scouting we seen a few and during our hunt one of the guys watched a couple hundred from a distance

It's NOT just about that...time spent with friends/family, enjoying the outdoors...making memories is a TON more important than the size of a rack!!!
