As a Nebraska fan I am extremely disappointed in our hitters and serve receive! They had Landfair starting but never set her or gave her any kind of opportunity but then pulled her, WHAT?! To put in Krause who is extremely inconsistent and is putting up more errors and tips then hits. Beason didn’t look her best but we all have bad days. It’s just hard to watch the coaching staff put in a player that isn’t given any opportunity like Landfair just to pull her without chances to hit the ball.

Please bear with me in regard to Taylor Landfair's transfer to Nebraska....I am curious as to whether others also believe that her transfer was/is a colossal mistake. Without question, when the announcement was made that Taylor Landfair was transferring to Nebraska, I could not have been more excited. Taylor's volleyball resume is as impressive as any other player in the country: Honors & Awards • AVCA All-America First Team (2022) • AVCA All-America Honorable Mention (2020-21) • AVCA North Region Player of the Year (2022) • AVCA North Region Freshman of the Year (2020-21) • AVCA All-Region Team (2020-21, 2022, 2023) • Big Ten Player of the Year (2022) • All-Big Ten First Team (2020-21, 2022, 2023) • Big Ten All-Freshman Team (2020-21) • AVCA Player of the Week (Nov. 29, 2022) • Big Ten Player of the Week (Oct. 10, 2022; Oct. 24, 2022; Nov. 7, 2022; Nov. 28, 2022) • Big Ten Freshman of the Week (Feb. 1, 2021; April 5, 2021) • Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge Most Valuable Player (Aug. 27, 2022) • Academic All-District (2022) • Academic All-Big Ten (2021, 2022, 2023) To get a player of Taylor's pedigree standing 6'5" seemed like a perfect fit to compete against the size of Nebraska's volleyball nemesis Wisconsin. However, what seems to be emerging earlly this season is what to do with her. We can all agree that Taylor is a 6 rotation starter for any other program in the country. Given her pedigree, size, and undeniable talent, a strong argument can be made that she should be starting as a 6 rotation player for Nebraska. I suspect that Coach Cook is feeling immense pressure to start Taylor. This is where team chemistry comes into play. Does Taylor play ahead of freshman All American Harper Murray? Does Taylor play ahead of Lindsey Krause....who was playing outstanding volleyball before her injury last year and thus far this season? Given that Taylor did not arrive in Lincoln until May coupled with the fact that many Nebraska players were commited to practice and play for a couple of different organizations throughout the summer, the opportunity for Taylor to develop chemistry with the program was non-existent. Now, as the season gets underway, what does Coach Cook do with Taylor on a team that played for the National Championship last season? Given that Taylor has had few opportunities to play early this season, is it reasonable to assume that the chemistry necessary to work within a lineup has not, yet, been developed? Is Krause, in particular, looking over her shoulder thereby adding to the pressure for her to play well for fear that she will be replaced.....a major contributor to the sucess of the program over the past three years? Is the pressure on Coach Cook to play Taylor a distraction thereby adversely impacting overall team chemistry? As I noted in a previous comment, surely Taylor did not transfer to Nebraska with two years of eligibility to sit. Clearly, something is amiss and I wonder if Taylor's transfer is causing more harm to both she and the team than good. I am interested to hear everyone's take on this issue. I have no idea what the answer entails, but something has to give because Taylor is one of the best players in the country wating away on the bench.

(Minnesota fan here)… Taylor is awful in the backrow. AWFUL. To be honest most of us fans were happy to see her go. She was a cancer with her attitude. I can't remember off the top of my head but.. both minn and smu.. 6:05 So Jackson is a future National Team starter, but I can see that she, and the entire Nebraska front-row need to practice FOLLOWING THE HITTER (not the ball) when blocking. SMU's middle already started making her move to slide BEHIND the setter, but Jackson was still planted in the middle of the net... SMU is running lots of 'tricky' plays, and doing so very well. Nebraska needs to adjust, and practice for this quicker, more dynamic style of play.

From my vantage point having followed Nebraska's volleyball program since the mid 90s, this highly egregious loss, in all actuality, will prove to be far more beneficial than had they won without focus, intensity, and attention to detail. Coach Cook and staff can, now, point to this game as proof that they are as susceptible to losing as any other program in the country. From the E60 documentary to all of the preseason hype, these ladies entered into this game believing that they were unbeatable. From a coaching perspective, Coach Cook can refer to this game for the rest of the season as evidence that if you overlook an opponent, if you take winning for granted, if, again, you lack focus and intensity, you are capable of losing. Its hard to convince a team that they are susceptible to losing when all they hear is that they are unbeatable....ie Nebraska lost this game because they did not believe that they could lose this game. If I can be perfectly candid, I am glad that they were humiliated on their home coury by an inferior opponent this early in the season.....I suspect from the conclusion of this ugly game moving forward, we will not see a flat, disinterested team for the rest of the season.
