I just saw it today for the second time and I love it. One of the greatest movies of the last years. All the people of the town feel so real. And the ending is magnificent. It makes you smile and cry like a fool. Greetings from Argentina, again.

There´s something so atemporal about this film, I love it. I feel really warm after watching it.
@LearningaboutMovies4 жыл бұрын
the black and white photography is "timeless" and classic, giving the movie the feel of something older, I think. Maybe that's part of the atemporality?
@oscarmaidana92944 жыл бұрын
@@LearningaboutMovies I think it goes even farther than the colour. There´s something about little towns that get stuck in time, that really makes you wonder how much have they change since the last 40 to 50 years.
@LearningaboutMovies4 жыл бұрын
funny, I passed through Plainview a few months ago on a drive. It didn't look like it does in the movie! There's more corporate Americana there than you'd expect; the movie doesn't show that. So, "Hawthorne" perhaps is more idyllic, in a shabby way.

I have seen this movie 3 or 4 times. I think it's a wonderful movie. It's at the opposite pole of a Hollywood movie which makes it refreshing. I give the director and the actors a lot of credit for bringing this bittersweet story to life. We also thought the music was perfect. We play the soundtrack in the car when we do our own road trips.

it's excellent music. thank you.
@ThePalFishCoach4 жыл бұрын
If you like the music, you should also check out the film ‘Sweet Land,’ directed by Ali Selim. It released around 2007. Mark Orton composed the music you know and love in ‘Nebraska’ for this movie, originally. The story tells the tale of a mail-order bride from Norway who comes to Minnesota. Unfortunately, her parents were German, and her new town will not accept her due to anti-German sentiment in the wake of WWI. She and her fiancé, a man she’s barely met, must learn to work together in spite of the rejection from their community and the harsh expectations of farm life. The film is a different story, but reads like a love letter to the Midwest! I will forever recommend it!

I love this film. "Common, real-world people" shown with empathy and unexpected complexity. But they're people "of few words" (well , except for Woody's wife, who has no filters !) and so you have to hang with them for a while before the complexity sinks in. Plus, *the music is great* , along with the B&W cinematography.

Being a fan of SNL, i was curious about this movie when i saw the ads for it. Love the way it runs. Kind of “in real time”. Really gives you the sense that you’re right there with them. Another movie that has a similar feel is Buffalo 66. Check it out if you have not seen it.

I have seen it twice and could watch it again . I loved the black and white scenery of the large areas without people in them. A shot of some rolled up hay that seems to go on for miles. Great film. I highly recommend this movie. It became a classic from the very first viewing.

What I like about it is that it was filmed in Nebraska and it’s a small film about a simple subject. I also like that it’s in Black and White and realistic. This is the opposite of today’s hi tech movies with big budgets which are about hero’s fighting some alien villains. Total nonsense! There is hope for Hollywood if they make more films like this instead of big budget nonsense. This movie is relatable.
@LearningaboutMovies3 жыл бұрын
yes. movies like this are being made, yet they do not get the marketing hype because their profits are very small or non-existent.

@@LearningaboutMovies Thank God for that because I’m so tired of the CGI gimmicks. Like many movie fans, I used to enjoy special effects. I was amazed by what they could do. It seemed like magic. But it’s over for the most part. I recently watched a TV channel that had nothing but old westerns and I marveled at how many great stories can be told with action packed sequences and suspense and No CGI whatsoever. All done with old school stuntmen and women and great storytelling. I don’t care if I never see a CGI effect again. Strangely enough, I am a big fan of the Mandalorian and that is using cutting edge immersion technology. But it’s also a Western basically. Set in Space. But that show is the one exception to the rule.
@LearningaboutMovies3 жыл бұрын
The effects should serve the story. 95% of the time, it is the other way around.
@dynjarren83553 жыл бұрын
@@LearningaboutMovies I don’t need effects at all. I prefer realism. I’m done with fantasy nonsense. The sole exception being the Mandalorian. I can’t help but enjoy that show probably because it’s action packed and based on Westerns.

I've loved this movie -- and I know Woody "seems" demented, but I'm not convinced. He checks out because Kate is one constant stream of nastiness. He is desperate to go to Lincoln for his own reasons -- not just because he's confused. The two cinematic arcs of Woody and David are wonderful. And the 2 cousins are arguably my favorite evil sidekicks of all time.

Another reason why this movie is so good, in my opinion, is because it uses the genre of American Gothic. It shows the harsh reality of American life and the realm of sadness the characters have to live in each day. The back and white are meant to show how the color has drained out of their lives; all that is left is darkness and shadow. I always love it when a movie uses this genre because it's a very unappreciated genre. Another movie that uses it is Night of the Hunter. It's really good and I highly recommend it.

I thought the movie was about the small town rural Midwest. I've read a lot of (modern) Presidential candidate history and from what I've read about both Bob Dole from Russell Kansas and George McGovern from Mitchell South Dakota were very similar to Woody in that they both men of few words who never discussed their feelings or their accomplishments. When Richard Nixon attacked George McGovern's patriotism in the 1972. some people on McGovern's campaign had learnt about his past in that he was a World War II hero (as was Bob Dole.) They wanted McGovern to bring this up to counter the charge and attack Nixon for questioning his patriotism and McGovern refused, saying whatever personal accomplishments he may have had were not what the election was about.
