My mother got this same super machine in the 50's. We didn't have electricity, so it came out with the device using your feet working up and down. Later when available, the electric motor was installed. I was the happiest little girl (trusted by mother) to work on this machine and happy to announce announce that I still work on it! I am 75 years old.

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns. I’ve just bought a Belair super zig zag made in Japan. I thought it was a Singer clone , but I’ve realised it’s a Necchi. I’m watching the thread set up , and the guide adjacent to the tensioner, where you discovered the thread slot, is identical. I’ve oiled it within an inch of its life because it was completely dried out, and it runs beautifully.

I have great respect for those mechanics that have the skills to repair these old machines. Took my 70’s Husqvarna to get serviced and walked out with an older Husqvarna and a Necchi as well! If in Melbourne, Australia, I can highly recommend Mike and the Mechanicals in Hawthorn. There’s also a mad shop in the front! Thank you for this excellent video.

I hope that the engineers who designed this machine were given an award of excellence. To think all of this accomplished purely mechanically. Wow!

Necchi received the Italian design award for this machine in 1955, and the engineer hired in 1948, who designed the project, worked for Olivetti. Unfortunately the company closed in the late 70's due to the death of the owner. Hundreds of thousands of machines of this type were sold around the world. Unfortunately today they only sell computerized plastic, which breaks when you look at it.

I THANK YOU FOR THIS COMPLETE AND VERY INSTRUCTIVE VIDEO ON THE NECCHI SEWING MACHINE. I watched my Dear Mother sew for hours on hers. She made our dress shirts. Father and son matching shirts, etc. She made me a double breasted suit coat and you couldn't tell it WASN'T a professionally made coat. She ordered custom labels for all her creations and perfectly sewed them in. She had used her Mother's treadell Singer and Dad bought her the NECCHI, back in the 1950's. I was super young and don't remember the year. My grandson played around it and has done something with the CAM CASE. I haven't been able to find it. I got the info, off the back base of her machine, and punched it in on KZbin and your site was the first one that popped up. That was Her machine. Same color, even. You showed how to fill the bobbin and how to thread it and how to sew with it, and how to use the cam box and cams and the Button Hole cam. You even showed how to use the cams for embroidery stitching. I thank God I found this video !!! THANK YOU!!!

First and foremost, thank you for the time and effort you put in for us viewers ! I don't own a Neechi BU just yet but found a really clean looking BU for sale near by for what seems to be a great price ($175). It has new powerful motor and a new electronic foot pedal. Iv'e talked to the gentleman on the phone a couple times setting up a meet time. He is a sew'r himself and has 1/2 doz machines. Here's where I need your help, he said he recently loaned it out to his sister and when he got it back to sell he said he can't get it to sew like it had when he first acquired it. (He said it sew'd amazing) It's bunching up thread on bottom side. He has tried new needle's, bobbin, bobbin tension, top tension, remove and re-install bobbin case etc. Now I don't know his knowledge of repair and diagnostics. Now he really doesn't want to sell cause he can't get it running. I hate to pass a clean BU for a more than fair price. Could it be as simple as the timing got knocked out ? I don't know how hard that is to do. Any thoughts of your would be appreciated. I am still going to go see machine tomorrow but wanted to go into it a little better prepared, ie How far should needle bar come up from bottom when hook is right behind needle? How close should hook point be from needle scarf ? Does a BU have timing marks on needle back like Singer's do ? Thanks again for you video's.
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Жыл бұрын
I've never had a machine where the timing has been out. I don't think it's easy to knock a machine out of timing. I would think if the timing was out it wouldn't for a stitch at all. It could be something as simple as changing the type of thread. I would also check the presser bar pressure. Try your own needle - he may have had a bad batch - and make sure it is inserted the right way round.

Incredible. I had no idea that it (she? what gender are Italian sewing machines?) could do reverse stitches with the cams although I knew that others could. The drawers are certainly a unique feature. I have never seen the Supernova operate with double needles. Unusually they appear to be in line with the stitches. What purpose does this serve? I know that when a twin needle on other machines are used twin lines of stitching can be created, but they are not as strong as two separate parallel lines as they share the bobbin thread. Does it just make the stitching stronger or does it come into play with the decorative cams, perhaps using a multi-point zigzag? Different coloured threads would look amazing with the decorative stitches. Sorry, I'm going on a bit - I'm so curious. Perhaps a follow up on this superbly engineered and incredibly stylish machine would be possible once you have removed any remaining gremlins. Thank you very much for rescuing, restoring and showing this Necchi. Of course I hope that you enjoy her too (must be a she, surely!).
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I need to explore and experiment more with this machine. She's certainly impressive and I think I've only scratched the surface of what she can do. Twin needles? Wow! Fantastic tutorial and professional filming. I just love this machine. My mum had this exact model, from when I was a kid in the 80s. A few months ago I dug it out of the old garage. It was completely jammed and filthy, but little by little, I restored and oiled it to almost perfectly working order. (Not as shiny as yours though :-) ). The only issue I have is that, one out of five, it tangles the thread beneath the feed dogs. I literally have to cut through a spaghetti of thread beneath the fabric to free it. The tension is set perfectly, and all the mechanics work correctly. Not sure why it suddenly fails for no reason. I am suspecting the actual bobbins, which I bought, as original ones were missing, are a bit warped or the thread size/quality is not good. Any thoughts please? Thanks and will done once again!

Yo empezaría por comprobar que la aguja está en el sentido correcto y que está bien enhebrada y que la canilla inferior está en el portabobinas correctamente.

My girlfriend moved out of state and I was lucky to be standing there when she was throwing stuff away she didnt want.She was just about to throw this exact machine but it was so heavy she couldnt lift it over trailer side, its the first time I saw it and said, what are you doing, if you dont want it I do, she said I dont think it works, I said I dont care, and took it home, learned how to oil it and thread it and fell it love ,it works perfect. I dont have anything that goes with it, I really really want cams , where can I get?
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns3 жыл бұрын
Just keep an eye out on the usual places, eBay, Facebook marketplace, etc. Thrift stores may be worth looking at. Join the Necchi Facebook groups, there's always machines and accessories for sale in them.

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Oh, very nice to meet you ,thank you so much for responding, I only have had it two days and only know how to oil and thread it, I love it and want to learn everything I can, what can it do without cams?

@@gottagoat it can do basic straight and zig zag stitches. The ones you would use the most. The cams are for fancy pattern stitches.

I found a Necchi BU Supernova machine in my mom's attic. It is in pretty good shape, needed a cleaning but it still works. It does need a new belt and I'm having a difficult time finding one. I tried just a generic rubber belt, but it slips. What kind of belt do you recommend? The one that was on it looked like it was a fabric covered belt and it was shredding to pieces. Thanks in advance!
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns3 жыл бұрын
I replaced mine with a toothed belt. The one that was supposed to fit my machine was too small, so I had to tie a piece of string around the pulleys to measure the right size, but the toothed belts work well (When I got the correct size). There is very little adjustment on the motor compared to other brands.

@@CurioByBSpokeDesigns I have the same problems also, the belt on mine was torn to shreds and when I opened it i found bits and pieces of the old belt. My dilemma is that I cannot find anyway to remove the handwheel and upper pulley, the lower pulley attached to the motor has some screws but i don't want to touch them for fear of damaging the motor. Do you know if there's a way to remove the handwheel since it doesn't seem to have any screws and i tried pulling it but at the end I gave up for fear of damaging it.
@CurioByBSpokeDesigns3 жыл бұрын
@@ATEEZownmysoul If I remember you have to remove the stop motion knob - I think there's a small screw holding it on. Mine was seized solid so I used heat from a hairdryer to melt the solidified oil.
@sginsberg12 жыл бұрын
@@ATEEZownmysoul my machine has 2 screws on the hand wheel.. you can unscrew those and unscrew the silver part off. then you can remove the hand wheel.
