I've never been able to learn how to play guitar because of confusion or impatience but the more I watched the video, the quicker I got a hang of it. This is the first time I've ever learned how to learn a song on the guitar. This was the most helpful video I've ever watched

Im pretty new at acoustic guitar and this video taught me in a matter of maybe an hour how to play this song.. very well done.. I'm happy that you explain everything from finger placment to strumming pattern as both are very important. You explained the strumming so well so many times but I'm still struggling. How do you remember the patterns??

Hmmm hard to explain on here but it's not really that I "remember" them (in fact I haven't heard the song in a while and can't remember how the strumming sounds) but after learning so many patterns years ago it makes it easier to recognize the sounds and sort of feel them out. Another thing that makes it easier is that people tend to use certain common ones over and over in other songs (or at least very similar) so it's not really like you have to learn thousands of patterns or anything. Check out the Video I made about how to make "that" chuck sound. In the video I show how you can break apart a strumming rhythm and practice it piece by piece to help get the skill (like I said I can't remember but it might be the same rhythm or very similar to the one in this song). If that doesn't work then check the link above about Skype lessons and I'm sure I could help you get it:)

Thanks for the great video! I have a question about the interlude tab, during the fourth bar a '2' occurs on string B and G at the same time, but in the video I see you picking two other strings, something like B and A (I'm not sure). Which strings should I play? Thanks!

Sorry for the confusion, the problem with doing these tutorials is sometimes I have to decide if I should mention something or if it would end up being even more confusing to people than if I didn't mention it. You have a good eye lol maybe I made the wrong call on that one. You probably should just play it like it is in the tab. I play both of those notes you mentioned (the 2 on string B and G), but I also hit the A string open with my thumb just to help give it a thicker sound. The problem with that is that you sort of have to switch to finger picking just for that one second, and for most people it would just be easier to stick with hitting the 2 higher notes (on G and B) with the pick. It could be a lot of practice for some just to play one extra note in the bass. I also hit the note at the beginning of the 7th bar. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Thanks for the tutorial. Doing vocals tomorrow. Now, during the verse, there’s a constant strum going back and forth half steps on a note. Know what I’m talking about? There’s so much going on in the song, I didn’t hear the chords you’re playing. I hear two chords playing back and forth so we recorded that. And then went in with another guitar playing just the root notes because I do hear the root of the notes you’re playing. This is on his big studio speakers. On our phones we hear no root notes. And have course the little lick during the verses but that’s easy. The chords are what weird me out. What do you think? Hear what I’m talking about?

That percussive strum gives a lot of my students trouble too so don't feel bad...it will come. You could try to remove it for a bit and just do a normal strum. Practice just doing the percussive strum by it's self over and over then slowly start to add it in :)

Hi Dave, don't worry they can be a bit tough at first. A lot of times all you need to do is release the pressure on the chords, while still keeping contact with the strings. Sometimes you may need to bring your palm down on the strings as well. I know that we have done this in other songs too. Maybe check out the rhythm guitar during the solo section of my newest video (the Sum 41 one) for a little exercise to get comfortable doing that if you are already comfortable with your power chords.
