This game went exactly as I expected. The ogryn shook off a ton of damage and killed whatever they could get a hold of but spent the entire game doing basically nothing. It’s bad enough against a shooty swarm keeping most of your gang permanently pinned but the blaze template spam was absolutely brutal. I love the idea of the ogryn gang and would love to make them my first gang if I ever get around to playing instead of watching but they seem so easily shut down by basically anyone. How is it they’re always so highly ranked on the scoresheet but seem so awkward and hobbled in games? Is there something I miss about them that stands out as really strong and able to win? Fantastic batrep as always
@MiniatureGameMontageАй бұрын
@@Rhuowave they are just strong at T5 and have a great cool. They are sticky. Even when getting beat down they trudge on slowly but surely. They tend to have low numbers but still win the battle of attrition.
@RhuowaveАй бұрын
@ I love tanky elites in games so that walking tank theme is the big appeal for me. I just worry that they may be too specialized and I may be better off playing Goliath instead for a similar but more balanced feel despite not liking their aesthetic as much. Corpse grinders are another melee focused option but again I prefer the big boys way more than the chaos slashers.

Not a fan of this one TBH. It's one of those instances that happen sometimes in Necromunda (especially when non-House gangs are involved) where I knew the outcome as soon as I knew the gangs and scenario. This game was pretty much decided before the dice were rolled, and while that's sometimes alright to give a struggling gang a win, here it just felt like handing one gang the campaign. Presentation was on point as always though, so there's that.
@MiniatureGameMontageАй бұрын
Thanks! Everything is determined by a random number generator so it is what it is. 👍 I'm not sure the Ogryn stood a chance against all the templates but the game had to be played.
@johnkidby7948Ай бұрын
@@MiniatureGameMontage Fair enough! I can respect your commitment to the RNG. Just saying that I think cases like this are a good argument for occasionally fudging scenario rolls.
@cjanquartАй бұрын
Agreed; haven't played this edition but in several campaigns in the original edition, Redemptionist (and to a lesser extent Cawdor) gangs with multiple flame weapons were generally despised due to the flamer spam. In our group several other players would post 'bounties' on flamer equipped models slain by another gang.; we called it a 'code of the Underhive' and was always nice having a extra 10 or 20 credits here and there. That Redemptionist player certainly didn't like it but he managed to kill six of my Goliaths in an Ambush; by rights I should've restarted my gang but I toughed it out (being not-so-bright Goliaths after all). The scenario table being what it was (favoring the lower gang rating player), I was able to select either Scavengers, Raid, or Hit and Run missions, getting credits and much more experience. For Goliaths, they actually demonstrated above-average intelligence and once my gang was up to full strength, the original three survivors of that ambush became absolute monsters. Even in the last edition there was the similar phenomena of "oh, that gang should win by turn three" but of course things like exploding weapons or grenades bouncing around corners and killing an enemy leaders were also a thing :D
@cjanquartАй бұрын
@@MiniatureGameMontage If it were any other gang/house, they'd be hit/burn/down/out of action. At least the Ogryn took it on the chin.
@supermackyt4569Ай бұрын
'Blaze' is thematically okay because... you know... you've been set on fire, so the actions make sense, but it is not fun to play against. "Avoiding" an enemy's Flamer is not always possible; they don't have to roll anything, and you have a 50/50 chance to, at minimum, lose your next activation with the enblazened model. I don't know what to do about it; thematically, I understand it- but mechanically, it's kinda bs.
@MiniatureGameMontageАй бұрын
It's so hard to deal with. You're absolutely right! Maybe tick it up to a 5+ blaze? The Ogryn don't have range under normal circumstances so they have to get in close.
@wizardmanaia4664Ай бұрын
Hazard suits are what you can do about it.
@supermackyt4569Ай бұрын
@@wizardmanaia4664 I'm not sure about that. Going from a 5+Sv from Mesh Armour (I play Orlocks) to a 6+ just to mitigate Blaze seems extreme. Hazard Suit is 5 Creds cheaper... Hmmm maybe an alternate loadout later in a campaign, but I think the 5+Sv is more universally useful.
@cjanquartАй бұрын
Not familiar with this edition but in the original edition flame-based weapons were somewhat expensive and/or could only be taken by certain models (except for those damn Receptionists and their one shot flamers) and required an ammo roll after each shot, which made it much more balanced. I totally get the fluff with Cawdor (and actually appreciate that each house has it's own weapons) but constant 'oh you're on fire...again' gets old very quickly. I pulled some nonsense against a Receptionist player with my leader with grenade launcher equipped with a red dot and would target a wall/cover and catch models in the blast. No 'spot the dot' because I didn't aim at a model and the blast was usually good at pinning or making people fall off elevated positions. Again, this is with the original rules.
@supermackyt4569Ай бұрын
@@MiniatureGameMontage I'm thinking that all you change is when you do the check to extinquish the Blaze. 50/50 chance that the target get's Blaze, but the target rolls to extinguish the flames as an action at the start of their activation; not at the end of it. Resolving Blaze (wandering 2d6, taking a S3 wound, THEN checking if you can extinguish Blaze) is just too much.
@SiygessАй бұрын
Ooof, between robbing your opponent of actions because their models are on fire, and robbing the actions of models who are not on fire (through acts of faith), Cawdor really come across as a bunch of stun-locking jerks who are obnoxious to play against! 😂
@MiniatureGameMontageАй бұрын
@@Siygess they have been really tough. They also have the ability to bring so many bodies. I think one gang, maybe Orlock, was close. But if you have ranged you can just plink them off as normal. Corpse Grinders and Ogryn will struggle more than likely.
