Thanks so much for another great review of my work (Puritan Opiate). I’ve been trying to learn more about how to make things sound more dynamic and sharp from the production side, and it’s rad to hear that that’s coming through when you listen. Ironically, “Failure of Outward Forms” is my favorite track on the album in terms of songwriting, but I totally agree. Something went wrong loudness-wise when I mastered it.

One of the guitarists of Niflheim is a friend of mine. Niflheim is pretty much dead as of right now. The brothers can't agree on nothing and don't even speak to each other anymore. So they formed new bands on their own: Hellbutcher and the other is Crank. Check them out too :D

Cool show Nick. I'm curious. How many rooms in your house are filled up with merch/cds/lps, etc? I live in an apartment so my daughter has loaned me a corner of her room. Hahaha ha! My newest finds are Helheim on vinyl, Einherjer on vinyl, Thin Lizzy backpatch from Europe which turned out to surprise me on how excellent the service was + backpatch is embroidered! Ready to create another jacket 🤘 I've never heard of that Lunatic album. It's great finding things from 80s/90 s and thinking " how have I not heard this before?" Recently found EvilDead (thrash) and had to ask myself that question 😂 A lot of killer music out there. Sifting through all the shitty stuff to find those great bands could be a career in itself. Cheers 🍻 Nick, you fucking rock!

Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I have 2 rooms in my basement dedicated to my CD collection at this point and I still have just enough closet space and dresser space for the bulk of shirt collection at this point. It's still manageable... for now lol. I'm not familiar with Helheim but I do have one album by Einherjer and it's pretty solid. Yeah I'm running out of room on my vest so I have a jacket on standby for the next batch of patches I get. That Lunatic album was sent to me by one of the members. It's pretty rare so I imagine a lot of people haven't heard of it and I strongly recommend Evildead's debut album "Annihilation of Civilization". That album is a hidden thrash gem in my opinion.
@rememberbeginning6 ай бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal that's awesome! That "Annihilation of Civilization" is the one I first heard about six months ago and had to ask myself " how have never heard these guys?" Yeah, classic gem I somehow missed! Helheim from Norway is one of those bands I heard a couple of songs and ended up listening to everything they ever made and have been building a collection of since. Absolutely incredible stuff! In ways they remind me of Enslaved in that they started in the early 90s with a very black metal sound and just get better and better with every album. Also, their logo has changed 3 times along with their music...not in a "sellout" kind of way either but a steady progression of their talent. LandawarijaR, RigniR (or the ones I can spell out off the top of my head) are a few of their newer gems and my favorite of their older albums is called The Journeys and expiriences of death! I'm jamming to all that new Cavalera stuff lately and enjoying it a lot! Cheers man! 🍻

Bro, I"m all about the Marty Friedman release. I've been a fan since Scenes. Bought everyone. My favorites are Scenes and Introduction. Drama has a ton of that flavor to it. I love how Marty uses Eastern influences in his composition. How the acoustics are played to mimic a koto (traditional Japanese string instrument). It taught me at a young age to listen to other types of music to make me a better musician. Can't wait for this one dude. If you like his solo stuff I dig this album and my favs are: 1-Scenes 2-Tokyo Jukebox 3 3-Introduction
@thrallsofmetal6 ай бұрын
Necrotic Nick- I didn't get into his solo stuff until Bad DNA which was alright but Inferno was the one that really made me a fan. There's still a ton of solo stuff from Marty I've never jammed though and this dude has been prolific to say the least. He's been a favorite of mine in terms of lead work for years but it's cool hearing him do more in the way of songwriting here even if this one wasn't very metal all.
@Nadinetherescuehound6 ай бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal Yeah, definitely not metal, but if you're a fan of new age or Kitaro or even instrumental music in general. Countless hours of grinding in Final Fantasy have been spent listening to this guy. One of the all time greats, IMO. Kitaro produced Scenes. He's huge in Japan. Dude thinks in Japanese, we lost a national treasure. LMAO!!! Scenes is a must own for any fan of instrumental music. Drama is really good too. As much as I love metal, can't listen to it all the time lol. Marty's solo stuff is good for those times. The metal aspect of the music is the composition. It might not be in distorted guitars, foreboding basslines, or a heavy thick sound; however, this guy has the best compositional skills of all the elite guitarists and never relies on his ability or over plays a solo, unless it's warrented. What sets Marty apart is his ear. Then it's how clean he picks. Then it's how every last note has a purpose. Sorry for the verbose response, this dude is God to me and I'm still glad he's getting the love he deserves online. THanks NIck.

Even though I disagree I totally respect your opinion on the new Evildead album. Personally I like it more than United States Of Anarchy (which I also love). Imo Toxic Grace is full of catchy Thrash tunes. F.A.F.O is my favorite song released in 2024 period. Reverie, Raising Fresh Hell, Stupid On Parade, Bathe In Fire, Fear Porn... There's some definite catchy Thrash bangers on this album imo. I think the majority of the "woke" complaints or whatever they're called are based on one song. Subjugated Souls. Yes that song criticizes Gen Z and it's seemed to have triggered the hell out of them proving the songs point imo. The production is a lot better than on the previous album United States Of Anarchy as well imo. Phil's vocals seem to be the biggest complaint with some people but personally I dig them. His vocals haven't changed all that much to me over the years but to each their own, My biggest gripe with United States Of Anarchy was the production. As I can hear literal distortion and not the good kind when I listen to that album on speakers or headphones. I still love that album though. Anyways, Toxic Grace is my favorite Thrash Metal album released this year, knocking down Morbid Saint - Swallowed By Hell to a very close #2. 2024 continues to be a tremendous year for Thrash Metal. All that said, I totally agree with you that Annihilation Of Civilization is Evildead's best album and a Thrash classic.🤘
@thrallsofmetal6 ай бұрын
Necrotic Nick- Hey, if we all enjoyed the same stuff it would be a boring world. Yeah, musically I liked United States of Anarchy but the production was just rough overall. With this one I do think the production is better (not great but improved) the music felt really phoned in. Very few songs really jumped out at me. Fear Porn (that title is kinda cringe lol) and Reverie were pretty solid as well as a couple of other but most of it just feels lackluster. I checked out the lyrics and while the word "woke" was only mentioned a few times the themes are still there which I can generally look past if the music is solid. I can see the complaints with the vocals. To me they sound like he's straining and the cleaner moments don't really land which hurts the chorus refrains. Still, I'll always defend their debut as an underrated gem. Morbid Saint might still be my thrash album of the year honestly. It's gonna take something insanely good to take that spot in thrash this year to even budge album.
@SuperStrik96 ай бұрын
@@thrallsofmetal That's cool to each their own. I find the songs on Toxic Grace are more memorable than the songs on Swallowed By Hell. That's why I slightly prefer it. One thing the albums have in common that I've noticed are people criticizing the vocals. I mean, hey whatever to each their own. I think Pat's vocals are great on the new Morbid Saint. Yes they are different than on Spectrum Of Death but they're still great. Same with Phil from Evildead. To each their own though. I'm a Thrash fiend as it's my favorite genre of Metal, so I'm going to like/love Thrash albums more than most. I fully admit that ✋

Necrotic Nick- They're a hell of a band and honestly their discography is a pretty wild ride. A lot of the earlier stuff definitely has a sludge metal element to it but kept getting more atmospheric as they went on. Actually Neurosis is probably one of their biggest influences but I like that they put their own stamp on it. I get people not liking Neurosis though. Yeah, I've been a Bossk fan for years as well and I love the fact that their name is a legit nod to one sick Star Wars bounty hunter. Boba's still the goat though no doubt. IG88 was no slouch though.
