Let's look at a few REAL facts relating to the questions and the answers. 1. The Kelly's were NOT hounded by the police. Ned Kelly admitted to having stolen 280 horses, so was it proper for the police to pay attention to his criminality? The police were just doing their job. Red Kelly, Ned's father did not die in gaol. He died 6 months after he was released, and his death related to excessive alcohol consumption. Ned Kelly was convicted by a jury of 12 men for Feloniously Stealing a horse. Evidence was given at his trial that he intended to sell the horse for profit, and he knew it had been unlawfully obtained. Ned Kelly never lived an honest life. He was always stealing horses, even when he was working as a tree feller for a living. 2. The suggestion that the police were English is not true. Police records show that 82% of the police in Victoria were of Irish extraction. The Royal Commission found that the police acted properly regarding the criminal activities of the Kelly's. 3. The armour that the gang wore at Glenrowan was designed so after a train had been derailed north of Glenrowan they would be on high ground and their legs could not be seen. Kelly intended to shoot all on the train, including police, men women and children. It would have been an horrific crime. 4. So what did Ned Kelly say about being harassed by police after his capture. He could only state one incident and that was when Constable Lonigan took hold of his genitalia to get him under control. No other mention was made of police harassment by Ned Kelly. The claim was fictitious nonsense as the RC found. Here is their finding. "It may also be mentioned that the charge of persecution of the family by the members of the police force has been frequently urged in extenuation of the crimes of the outlaws; but, after careful examination, your Commissioners have arrived at the conclusion that the police, in their dealings with the Kelly's and their relations, were simply desirous of discharging their duty conscientiously; and that no evidence has been adduced to support the allegation that either the outlaws or their friends were subjected to persecution or unnecessary annoyance at the hands of the police." 5. Ned Kelly murdered Sgt Kennedy at Stringybark Creek while the Sgt. pleaded for his life, telling Kelly that he had 5 children and his wife was pregnant. Kelly took a shotgun and blasted the sergeant in the chest at point-blank range killing him instantly. The autopsy report states that Kennedy was standing erect when he was murdered, not seriously wounded. Not satisfied with that atrocity he then robbed the corpses of their valuables, including a pocket watch that was a Kennedy family heirloom, and their wedding rings and some money. 6. Ned Kelly should be remembered only for the horrific crimes he carried out against society. He stole many horses from poor settlers, often sending them bankrupt. Ned Kelly was a stand over thug, and he did not represent anyone other than himself and his Greta Mob thugs. Here is a representation of what Kelly's people did to poor settlers. In the interests of presenting a factual and truthful representation, I often comment where videos present material that is essentially following the myths. Truth is a great teacher.
