I remember when I first got this game. Was blown away by the graphics since the change from NFS2 and at that time I thought - Games Graphics cannot get any better than this.... of course I was wrong but still the best NFS I've played though.

As a little girl back then, I asked my big bro who loved this game: Me: Do you think this game will be history? I mean, won't you grow up sooner or later and forget about how awesome it was? Bro: ... Whenever we speak about racing, my mom always mentions 3 things: 1) Hometown; 2) Lamborghini Diablo; 3) Need for Speed 3. Since I was 6 in 1998, she has never played any other racing configuration but for the mentioned above. Now I'm 19, but the sound of a car scratching off its side paint when driving too close to a wall and mother's "Resetting is for cheaters!" are still clearly echoing in mind.

I used to finish races like that too, making the car spin like crazy. One of the best games of its time. This one is the one that got me to play all the NSF games I could. Except for Pro Street.

same here... my little brother and I would always have Windows Media Player playing music like AC DC. The game would always crash when we minimized it (and we wanted the songs to be playing while we were driving... not choosing our car color)... So we decided to record an intro track that we would play before the music that was basically the both of us acting like idiots and telling us to choose our car faster LOL. It was one minute long and I think I still have it >.

@JayRicci7891 Correct. Mercedes and Ferrari both had issues with law breaking in both this game and Need For Speed High Stakes. They eventually got over it. The same thing happened in The Transporter I & II. Notice that in the first movie he drives a BMW 700 series, but in movie II, he ends up with an Audi? That's because BMW denied the director to use the rights to the BMW name in the 2nd movie. However, Audi was more than happy to accommodate them.

The graphics were absolutely GREAT at the time. In fact, it was probably the best looking PC driving game around back in 1998, with smooth textures, realistic lighting and reflections. It was a FANTASTIC looking game then and even over a decade later, it still looks not bad at all.

I remember this game featured in some gadgets and new electronics TV show along with Force Feedback steering wheel... I think this show is still made and aired, but I forgot it's name... Awersome game with awersome map and SPLIT SCREEN - No Windows Live!/Game Spy could match with splits screen play on one keyboard and shouting "don't press that many buttons my sterring locks and PC beeps!"

Still my fave NFS to this very day, and my first video game. I had this for PS1 tho. the new nfs is slightly similar, it feels the epic drifting is back (altho this is easier, i'd press O and drift round that 90 degree bend at 1.18) yer this is still my favourite. Just the tracks and soundtracks and the fact you could make the circuits mirrored and with weather, Good times. The Jag and Merc were my cars

same here thats why on my ipod I have every single song from the game (just go onto EA trax on your fav need for speed game) write down the name and artist of song and then go out and buy them or download from limewire and then fiddle with the playlist then whola you have your very own need for speed playlist.

@Ursenfuns dude, guess what. the game was indeed running on software acceleration on my netbook. the colours were toned down and as i said the tire smoke and dust had poor quality, the framerate was eratic too, but the game has a 3d device setup utility that lets me choose my 3d device. turns out the netbook's GPU can support the game. the graphics are optimised now and the framerate is high and constand no matter whats going on in the screen. a warning though, the game wont install on win 7.

I remember when I got my voodoo3 2000 3dfx graphics card for my old pc back in 2000... I spent many hours playing this. The only downer was that you couldnt use the Ferraris in pursuit mode :(

Honestly, out of the newer ones, the 2010 Hot Pursuit was a success, really. I loved it. While the new Most Wanted, well, it's not a 10/10, and it's nothing like the original, but it's still fun. I don't really have all that much experience in racing games, but I do want to start out with something. Could you recommend me one of the NFS games, for starters?
