Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (PS1) - Race on Atlantica

Time for some nostalgia again. :)
This is the first Need for Speed game that I ever played: The PlayStation 1 version of NFS 3. What an awesome game! These days I always play games on PC but when I compared the two versions of NFS 3 now I actually found the PS1 version to be better in many aspects. The handling of the cars is really nice for playing with a d-pad controller like the old PS1 gamepad. It is very precise. It is also quite impressive how they made drifting useful here in a few very tight corners (as you can see in the video) but in most of the corners you can do without it. This is how it should be. In many newer racing games there is either no drifting at all or you have to use it bloody everywhere if you want to be fast, which just makes it annoying very quickly. In this game they found a great solution.
In this video you can see a race on my (and probably many people's) favorite track ever: Atlantica. It also has the best interactive music track of all time. 3:23 anyone? :D

The graphics also look really sharp for a game this old and the AI opponents are great as well. They are beatable but not too easy like the ones in the PC version. Overall it is just an amazing title that is still fun even 16 years after it was released. You should give it a go yourself, either to relive some childhood memories like I did or to see what you have missed. :)

Imagine if NFS 2022 brings this game's vibe back, but with better graphics and an open world experience. Never forgotten this game ever, the music was dope, the tracks were fun to race on. Edit: this didn't age well, we're getting potentially cringe hiphop and too much street culture this year.

Yes! This is almost exactly how I used to play this level with the Diablo SV, except I didn't go into the ditch in the beginning and I always popped to the outside at the end where the covered tunnel is and just thread the needle like you did on the 3rd and 4th laps. Hitting top speed in the cars was just exhilarating! Love this game, my favorite racing game back then. Grand Turismo and San Francisco Rush were also a lot of fun too.

Most artistic, too, followed by Road Challenge / Burning Asphalt. It was all downhill from there, although the first Most Wanted was also good in terms of gameplay. Everything starting with Underground was bleh and started the casualization of the game to a criminal degree. The modern Need for Speed games released like Rivals are a disgrace to what this game once was.

Looked this game up after remembering it in a dream then after confusing it with a different need for speed I instantly regretted giving all my ps1 games to my best friend. Atlantica was my favorite track i used to jump off the ramp into what I thought was the storm drain channel and I never got to race aquatica but I did play it on my uncles pc version I thought the under water tunnel was awesome. Good Times.

I hated Ice so much! He would always beat me at the very last second on the last race of each tournament I did. I got lucky a few times, but that was a difficult AI to beat!

I find it funny that they gave them different names on the PC version. But you still had that one AI that was miles ahead of the rest of the pack and it would catch up with you and hold on to the last stage of the Knockout tournaments. Even if you crashed it purposefully at the start of the round it would recover and terrorize your backbumper.

This is the PS1 version, which is for consoles. But you can also play it on PC by using an emulator. Or you can get the PC version. Good game... i loved this version in the late end 1990s. Its not quite the same as the pc version; hud etc, and camera (in cockpit) and not quite the same driving physics; (psx arcade or "sim"(ulated sim) pc just "sim" both far beyond from sim) but they was great.

This one is NFS hot pursuit.. this is the one they should have remaked or the 2001 hp2 game. Not a remaster of the later hp game. I guess I'll stick to the originals. Since they at least got split screen. Racegames without at least split screen are a big nono for me.

The Atlantica race track is probably the easiest track the problem is the U-turn at 2:32 you need a car with a perfect breaking and handling only 3 cars have those: The Italdesign Nazca C2 The Jaguar XJR-15 El Niño

That's possible. In NFS 3-6 the PC and console versions have some noticeable differences.
