Need for Speed is one of my favorite movies. like top 5. it is so underrated but also it's got a lot of problems. I think the main issue is the movie doesn't take itself seriously enough and doesn't put the extra effort to make things stand out. it's got a good plot, great concepts and a serviceable execution but there was so much untapped potential and I think that's the reason why it didn't turn out as good as it could have. Like, the trailer of NFS showed a gritty, dark tone that really made it look very thrilling and suspenseful and I think the movie should have leaned in on that theme and tone from start to finish. The movie would've fared better if it was a cold revenge thriller rather than trying to be a road-trip, guilty pressure, kinda feel good flick that it is. like it's all there. as an example, the scene where Julia gets out of the car to fill fuel with Finn's help could've been a nerve wracking scene if it was shot while cops chased them and they were in a danger of running out of fuel so their attempt to try and get fuel while there's heat from behind would've been much more exciting and suspenseful. Instead we got a kinda cringey scene of Finn and Julia screaming and shouting like idiots. There are a lot of these scenes where the film tried to be light hearted and fun and i think it's the conflict between what's at stake and what they're doing that really fails to set an atmosphere for people to immerse into. Like, this movie's got so many good plot beats like Anita having a past connection with Tobey, Tobey having that stupid vision, Anita being the one that gave the car, the key to Tobey, Julia reinforcing Tobey to confront Dino, Tobey seeking revenge but ended up with redemption and the best scene of them all, when Tobey won the race and stared up at the lighthouse. Like my god... this movie got so many good moments and plot beats than most shit released today and it really upsets me to see the wasted potential.

Yeah bro, I once even thought that I can add more similar scene derived from the game... I was dreaming, but still got scenes. Like certain cop like "VRT" from rivals game who almost gets Tobey but lets him go as he's an old friend and knows the backstory, just like Mia let's us go in the NFS most wanted 2005.

Unironically, one of my favorite movies. It's a practical stunt - focused action movie that just happens to be a Need For Speed movie. Whoever expected deep "plot" from this needs to have their brain checked. The POV racing scenes alone are mind-blowing.

1:47 This single train breaks my immersion with this film. Its supposed to be set in Mt. Kisco New York, but this locomotive has a paint scheme that, to a railfan like me, is very iconic. its the "bloody nose" livery that was used by the Southern Pacific railroad. And where does the SP operate? way way WAY farther out west than in New York. Meaning this was filmed likely somewhere in northern california or the pacific northwest, and the immersion is completely broken for me.

Such a great car action film , underrated af . Not over the top super villain plots ( i am looking at you f&f franchise after the 4th film ) nor low budget . Just an excuse to see pure supercars racing against each other and car stunts in a serious movie production , i cant name any single serious film that has done this before other than the early f&f and they didnt even have those high end brands , they were racing against tuned jdm cars , here we have in-cinematic mclarens lambos bugattis and Koenigsegs racing against each other , I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS . The only thing I found odd is how tobby though he was actually going to race against hypercars in a moded mustang but they played it nice switching to the koenigseg the last minute . Any car guy loves that movie
