I would 100% recommend the FIIO btr5 as a gift to a tech savvy person, for those of you who don’t know the btr5 is a portable Bluetooth headphone amp. It can be used to game or just relax and listen to music, because of its nearly 9 hour battery life, it’s perfect for traveling, and comes with its own eq. I own this device and it was worth more than the $109 I spent on it. Or some nice dusters or a swifter. Help them keep their setup and room clean.

The magnetic cables have one more neat use case - you simplify your charging setup. Keep one charger and one magnetic cable anywhere you might need it (in the office, in your car, by your computer, etc.). Plug the magnetic connectors to all your devices that might need charging. Now you can charge any device anywhere, with just one cable - especially useful if you have devices with different connectors - say you regularly charge an iphone (lightning), wireless headphones (USB-C) and a powerbank (micro-USB), now you can use the same cable for all (and maybe even save your fragile micro-USB sockets).

I personally prefer leatherman because their pliars and blades are more usefull to me personally, but I still have a little swiss knife that i can carry around for something more compact. Both Swiss Tools (Victorinox) and Leatherman both have lifetime warranties (~25yrs). So no matter what, this is a gift that anyone can get great use out of.

@@brentgoeller8257 Cash does not get lost in every day affairs. You just make a mental note of "I got $50 for Christmas, I can spend $50 on myself" and then do it. It doesn't have to be the literal bills you got in the card. I'll deposit Christmas and birthday cash in my bank account and then buy something online. Easy. Stop trying to justify the worst gift someone could give. Gift cards are awful, always do cash or a check instead.

An air compressor for cleaning my pc and keyboard because I'm always out of canned air. A list works for everything else just an message with links and if it is over budget have preferred options on it as well.

About the magnetic charging cables ... some of them are killing smartphone batteries (or other types of batteries) because of voltage peaks when connecting these to your device! be careful ...
@Litruv3 жыл бұрын
yeah, I'm scared to use mine now - I've had ~5 of them, but the tip seemed to of shorted while it was charging, port got burnt - I don't really use them anymore, in a bag with the rest of the USB cables..

I was wondering what to gift myself for Christmas. Thanks for the ideas!

Thank you for making this video, it was one I was really hoping you guys would make. I definitely got some great ideas for my PC and tech oriented dad and sister from this. Those lights especially are something I'm going to look into. I agree that it's tough to buy PC components for friends and family, but I have had success in the past gifting peripherals to them. Usually I'll get someone a mouse, keyboard, or headset that I already know I enjoy using, so if they ended up being unhappy with it, I could always keep it as a backup for myself.

"What to buy a "techie" " Don't. If you don't know anything about tech or the exact product your friend/partner wants, just ask them. You will buy the wrong thing and end up returning it or feeling sad. Surprises aren't fun. Just ask. Everyone will be happy.

Really like the magnetic charging cables! I game on my couch and 65" TV with a Corsair lapboard and have a 10ft micro-usb cable to charge it and my Logitech headset. Would be waaay nicer to have these than the current cables!

Man... had the fridge leak once when we were gone. Now... when I go on vacation, I shut off the main. But I still have those sensors. They're part of the security system. What would be cool is if they were connected to a smart main valve that it would shut it off if it detects a leak. Also have a lot of the Kasa smart plugs, switches and bulbs. Can't recommend them enough too.

You can get smart shut-off valves that connect to your main water supply.

@@reddemon163 Yeah, I've seen some... and they're nice. I've considered getting one, but I want one that will automate with my security system so if the water sensor, or the temp sensor, trips it shuts off the water without me having to react. You never know when you're not going to be able to activate something remotely.

I’ve had several of the Kasa smart plugs doe a few years now and really enjoy them. I use one for the fan that’s under my desk. I use em for Christmas lights. They’re a really good purchase.

Some good ideas there Jay, cheers Also the magnet cables also come in a OVAL shaped end, this fits better in my G703.

Hey Jay! I would like to request a video (technical in nature) showing how to set up home automation and using the stream deck with it. That would be a great video! Thanks!

I was doing a build at this time last year. What I asked for was this: Acquire one of a set of GPUs from an authorized retailer (I created a Pinterest board with links) and sell it to me at MSRP. The "gift" was the time, effort, and any markup put into getting it.

I recently bought the electric duster you use, and I love it. I also have that Kasa smartplug. I have my window fan plugged into it. Can turn it on/off from my phone or Alexa depending if I'm hot or cold. I also use features in the app to automatically turn it on/off while I sleep. Turn it on for 30 minutes at a time to keep my room cool, instead of keeping it on all night while I sleep and wake up freezing.

This gift is more for the tech people that love to clean their stuff: some 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol, some fine tip Q-tips or microfiber cloths, an electric air duster, and maybe some small screw driver sets to open up some tech and clean from the inside

Those magnetic charger adapters are great when you have a bunch of different devices that normally have different cables. So long as they all use the same standard USB input voltage and amperage then you can use the same charger and cable for an iPhone or different Android devices that maybe have a micro USB for one or a USB C for another charger. Now they can all use the same charging cable pen snap Rite in to charge.

Yes. These are awesome. Switched every thing last yr (wireless mice, keyboards, headsets, battery packs, flashlights, tablets and phones). Everything.

I have been using those mag cables for 2 years now and they are one of my favorite things for there ease of use. You can also buy additional ends separately if for instance you only need the USB C or the apple ends or the micro USB but need more of them. I think there are ones that also do data transfer as well as charge.
