Old school 392 Hemi had a crossover tube, my guess is it is a oil fill or possible crankcase ventilation

Those were used as fill pipes once the engine was converted to a drag engine, but on the passenger engine it would have been a crossover pipe from cylinder head to cylinder head at the back, and on the front it would have been a crossover pipe that was part of the water pump and on top of that crossover pipe is a thermostat housing

They also generally had vent tubes that went to the front header, quickest way to vaporize it.

Look up early '50s Hemi heads with water crossover pipe, you'll find lots of videos and pictures of it

It normally goes on the front of the head, but they add water into it.

It's a water fill tube for the heads it actually went on the front of the heads they put it on the back so it would come right back out and go out the back of the car that is where they filled up the waters into the heads
