You can erase on a computer, not format. When you insert in the Sony it will ask if you want to format.

You should not format a disc with your computer unless you have a special program. If your disc is finalized, i would suggest that you un finalize the disc and then format the disc if possible so that all the data will be erased and your DVD recorder will consider it as a blank new disc again. I don't know if this works for a DVD+RW but it works for me on a DVD-RW with a Toshiba DVD recorder so if possible i hope it works for you.

The most i know is that you can burn a disc with Windows Media Player so that all the footage will be on your computer, but you can't format it or erase any videos on the disc so correct me if i'm wrong. If nothing will work out for a computer, i would suggest that you should go to Amazon and buy a remote for your exact Sony DVD recorder if you can find one. Just make sure that the remote has all the features needed like setup so you can unfinalize and format a disc. I bought my own remote for my Toshiba DVD recorder separately and the remote had all the features to help me out with finalizing and formatting so if you find the exact remote for your DVD recorder it should help out.

Do you have a computer with a DVD writer drive? If you do, you can erase RW CDs and DVDs there.

I do, but after I erase them, they are not considered as new so they cannot be used in the DVD recorder. That's the problem.

why not go on ebay and for $20-30 grab a Logitech harmony remote. they are fully customizable and will 90% chance have the profile for that player in its database already. harmony remotes can be programed to work with almost anything that uses an IR remote. then u should be able to get into the menus u need.

Really? Usually universal remotes don't have all menus, the remote to this DVD player has different menu buttons, there's DVD menu, system menu, display, and the options buttons which is missing.

@@mrmagnetoscope logitech harmony remotes though are not like other universals. u plug it into your pc via a usb cable and u use the logitech software to program it. there is a massive database so even really old stuff like vcr can be in there. if the device isn't in there as long as u have the original remote it can learn the commands from the original remote. a dvd recorder is new enough and being a big brand like sony that its a 99% chance it will already be in the database. with the harmony remotes every single button can be customized. plus more then one device can be controlled at the same time. like u can set it up to turn the tv on turn to the right input turn on say a vcr and an a/v receiver and turn that to the right input. then like the vcr could turn channels the a/v receiver could control volume ect. they are pretty much like the best remote. there is also many models ranging for really cheap ones that u can get for around 20-30 used or like the top of the line ones that go for upto 300.

Maybe try to delete the recording you put on the disc by menu, if you haven't finalized it yet.

Tu semble être un bon connaisseur en vhs je vient de m'acheter un SONY SLV-585HF il fonctionne parfaitement mais lorsque que je recule une vhs (sans peser sur stop) il va se mettre a manger la cassette.En regardant l interieur j'ai pu voir que on dirait que la bande descend vers le bas et se brise. I have no idea why the remote I got with the DVD recorder is not the same as in the user manual. I thought it might have been interchanged at the thrift store, but I went back there and ask to see all their remotes, and I didn't find it.
