Do you use a different size needle for the tacking - is that the right term? - than for the actual lacework (in the previous video)?
@simonehawkins55202 жыл бұрын
In other words, do you use two different sizes, one for the punching/tacking (because you’re going through layers of material) and one for the actual lace?

As someone that is just beginning my trip down the rabbi thole that is this type of lace making I do have a question. Do you wax the linen thread?
@themodernmakermathewgnagy2152 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. The wax greases and discolors the linen, making much less beautiful. Instead, make sure you have a good linen thread meant for lace making. Use shorter lengths of thread so that you need to refresh it often. You do not want to use a very long thread and end up with lots of fuzzy abrasion, leading to a fuzzy appearance and weaker structure in the final lace.

Was it intentional that you wrapped the outline thread around itself? Sewing under the loops in a R/L direction going down, and then in a R/L direction going up, results in the outline thread wrapping around itself. I guess my question is, whether you made the decision to strengthen the outline thread over the desire for consistent lace foundation.... Or does it even matter? If one isthat close to the final product, to be that critical, maybe they're WAY too close, and maybe should back-off.

I'm not clear on what you're asking. so I will do my best on what I think the question is! The foundation thread and the working thread are the same size, so when the outline is done, you can just start right in with the lace work. I think what you're asking is about directionality of the needle. I'm right handed, so I work from R to L most often. It doesn't affect the final product. The tension with which the covering stitches are worked is such that the foundation threads are crushed against each other and the direction in which those threads are twined makes no difference in the final lace.
