this is super helpful for me, I'm making a doll for a friend and wanted the face to look good, (the character's face has lots of depth) and this helps me out quite a lot!

Glad you enjoyed it! The saga of that head was that I dropped it from the open car door on a rainy day and it fell into the gutter of running water! I worked in a Gallery at the time and had it on the desk, when two lovely Japanese Students came in and were so captivated and fascinated by it in it's colour-smeared state, that I gave it to one of them. You'd have thought I had given her a treasure! Not even any hair!

oh really! I understand completely that this was a gift for them! when I was a child around 8 or 9 years I saw tiny needle sculptured dolls from Elli Riehl here in Carinthia, Austria. I tried to copy them, the first one was such a freak that I threw it away. should have been a gift for mother's day :D I never dared again to try it. in Europe you find books for Waldorf Dolls, that's what I tried and extended for me the last three years. now comes this step towards your dolls - and I love it. I can now combine so many interesting handwork steps - don't know where this road leads. it is such a pleasure walking with people like you. thank you once more from deep of my heart.

What is inside the dolls head? How have you sculpted the cheeckbones and so on?
@Shan234ful2 жыл бұрын
Sorry it took so long to get back to you! The dolls head is stuffed with a polyester fibre stuffing, and cheekbones are made by stuffing into the cheeks. You can use a stuffing tool, or long forceps to place the stuffing where you want it to be. The fabric is velour, so has a tiny one-way stretch going across the face, to accommodate it.

If I wanted to make my doll a wide nose with wide nostrils, how would I do that?
@Shan234ful2 жыл бұрын
Marking out the nose first to make it wider will show where The sculpting stitches need to go. Don't pull the stitches in too tightly either, and make sure they are not tiny, or it will look too pinched! My stitches down the nose would be three or four each side, depending on the length of the nose. You can also loft up the tip of the nose and the nostrils using the needle.
