I wish that "Old Italian" that discovered the "Venturi Effect) could see the horsepower that is being made today with his observation. My attached garage vehicle door (south facing) will catch the wind sometimes and compress out the man door (north facing) to the patio and wildly accelerate. I always think of Giovanni Venturi when that patio door slams shut. Great video SRC Garage, Thank You. Take Care and God Bless.

Dang! Salt of the Earth Old Man here. At first, I thought I didn't have time for what I thought was a slow paced teaching style, but I came to appreciate NOT having to rewind and replay to get my thick noggin' to process and RETAIN the concepts presented. The fuel pressure info might be the key to my issue, I'm off to get parts to tee in a pressure gauge and most likely a regulator.
@realazliving Жыл бұрын
Bill, what you explain at the beginning is a completely normal situation. It seems odd but for just the reason you said, an expert in a field is usually not the best person to explain the basics of that topic. For example, a mathematician who teaches advanced math at a university really can’t remember what things a beginner math student needs to know. It was so long ago they learned stuff at that level it’s hard to remember details about that stuff that they can now just do without thinking. People have to re-learn how to think about basic things to be able to do it. That’s one big reason for teaching degrees. Sure a person knows the topic but not in a way they can teach it. For me it’s music. People ask a question but the way I think about notes and counting will just leave someone more confused than not. I think you did a really good job of explaining the power valves considering all that. Thanks again. Always awesome watching your videos.

Another huge thing to cover is that if your fuel pressure is too high, and even if your float is at proper level you can still have an issue if your seat housing seal is old and stiff and not sealing it could also be leaking right past that seat housing and over filling the bowl as well. My Duster through the traps would show 4-1/2 to 5 psi of fuel . We noticed through data logging that the Holley mechanical fuel pump wasn’t consistent at times going from 3 to 8 psi. Switched to a Holley Blue pump and a good regulator. Still only need to run 5 psi . Great video .

One thing to mention on the subject of problems with the idle being rich and the engine stumbles and running to hot on idle is the "no vacum advance/ported vacum/full vacum" issue, I think thats one of the biggest reasons that some has a problem with their idle,I personally ALWAYS hook the vacum advance up on "full vacum", but that is for another video... keep it up young man... Two things on your video which is great for the entry-level tuners ,one thing I did not hear you touch on ,very common issue in my line of work out here in Colorado.Performance Motorbikes ,is the O'ring on the float valve can become hard ,cracked or simply deformed by using 10% gas or e85 ECT.there should be a bit of resistance removing & installing .Great channel ! In my experience the liquid filled Fuel Press gauges usually have a rubber vent plug which should be oriented to the 12 o'clock position. When they get hot and the readings are wrong, just nudge the rubber plug sideways, air releases and the readings are back to what you see when cold. Absolutely excellent video by way. Thank you so much.

I also love your suggestion that the number one way to fix a carburetor is to properly set the timing. I have seen this myself several times at least. A couple times the people didn’t have the plug wires on the correct posts on the distributor from when they “carefully changed them”. So common. I teach the stick a finger over hole number one and watch the rotor while feeling the compression to find where one is method. Then read the firing order and put them on the right way.

Sr. Solid knowledge there my friend. You need to go over the rebuilding of a old Holley that someone's family member gave them (Those 1960's and 1970's carbs). Or something they picked up at a swap meet. And point out what to look for that needs fixed or repaired. Or whats junk and needs replaced, or just trashed. Because sooner or later, I think we all have bought someone else's used problem trying to save a buck or two. I'll have to go look, But I think I have 3 or 4 old 750 Holly's that I acquired 30+yrs ago. And I know there was a MONSTER 1050 Spread Bore in that box also. 🤔🤔🤔🤔 God only knows what condition those carbs are in 30 yrs later. Im sure pretty dried out and pretty mousey at this point. Still living in the back of moms garage. Merry Christmas and Be safe.

Well done fella, plenty there to help most blokes get there balls outa the bindies... I could add 2 small things to this aspect of hollies, if you can't stop a flooding situation after doing all what you just laid out there are 2 more possibilities, 1/ a float full of fuel if it is a brass float 2/ the O ring on the needle & seat leaks a/ because it is tired, or, b/ because the bore in the bowl that it seals against is corroded or damaged. The old corroded needle valve bore caper had me scratchin' me head for a bit 1st time I have personally found that leaking shit quality aftermarket power valves are the biggest cause of rich hollies, over here in Australia. I will ONLY fit genuine Holley P/V's to a street car, preferably as part of a Holley Trick Kit. I'm really enjoying your channel, content, family & dogs. I gave up TV about 20 years ago, but channels like this 1 are way more watch worthy than anything on TV. cheers from sunny Queensland Australia mate, lookin fwd to the next carb tech installment. ;-)
