The sub octave coupler would allow you to play an octave higher and would sound much brighter. It's an unusual alternative to a super octave coupler but I suspect could be very effective

My guess would be that the location of the tremulant apparatus inside the organ rendered it easier to position the drawstop on the Great jamb. I personally wouldn't worry about the lack of a Great 2 ft; you said that full organ was quite powerful. In the period this organ was built a variety of "colours" at 8 ft pitch would have been considered more important than higher pitched stops. The spec is pretty much as you'd expect for an organ of this size. I imagine that a solo registration of Swell 8 + 2 Flutes or Oboe 8, with tremulant, accompanied by the Great Dulciana (coupled to Pedal Bourdon) would be very effective. Looks like a nice organ.

Thank you for your explanation and demonstration of the capability of a lovely 100/plus yr old organ. I really love these old tracker organs. One must truly admire the ingenuity of the designers & builders to make everything function as it does. Simply amazing. Although most modern instruments are larger & more versatile I'm sure that with modern electronics it's a lot easier to have everything operate as intended although the wiring is probably a "nightmare".

There's an organ not far from where I live that up until about 10 years ago didn't have any stops above 4 foot. There was even a resultant 32 foot in the pedals! There were swell octave and suboctaves though. The current spec is a lot nicer with over 2000 speaking pipes

Funnily enough I’ve visited one this morning that sounds very similar! A random 32ft Resultant amongst some otherwise pretty boring stops 👍🎹

Nice solid little organ, perfect for its intended use as leading congregational singing! The tremulant being on the Great side may have been because there was a spare stop knob if the Great had been remodelled at some point maybe? Why make the extra work of drilling a new hole on the Swell jamb? LOL!

The organ was originally hand blown and the pump handle is still present. The later electric blower is housed to the left of the organ in a small chamber cut out of the thick stone wall of the church, with access from the exterior (not really accessible from the narrow interior space between organ and wall). There is an old key by the organ labelled "Organ Motor House".

Nice little organ. But those plastic switches nailed onto the case - ugh!

Indeed - I see them a lot and they don’t do much for the appearance. They’d be better under the console, by the pedals, out of sight 🙄👍

How do you know that the tremulant is on the great? If it says swell tremulant, then that may well be what it is - even if it is on the "wrong" side.

The ‘Swell Tremulant’ stop is on the great jamb and and works on the swell manual.

So yes, it’s on the wrong side. Maybe I didn’t explain it clearly

Typical of a snall two manual built in that period, The infamous Dulciana 8 on the Great when there is an excellent string on Swell. The full organ is okay but is crying out for a Fifteenth 2 to complete the Diapason chorus.
