The main thing is that Meliodas is the Demon King's oldest son, while Elizabeth is the Supreme Deity's only daughter. They basically betrayed their own kind. This is the same as Romeo and Juliet story but with more trauma.

just to explain...the Supreme Deity cursed Meliodas with Eternal Life, while the Demon King cursed Elizabeth with Eternal Reincarnation and looking back, makes sense why they didn't curse their own child Elizabeth with Eternal Life, and Meliodas with Eternal Reincarnation but whats most upsetting, it seems every situation where Elizabeth dies, it waits for the right moment where Meliodas will be with her, and have to watch her die

Meliodas was the strongest demon known to his race and he was next in line to become demon king him falling in love with a Godess with that status and being the son of the demon king is why the demon king personally punished him he was the only capable of doing so Similar for elizabeth despite not seeing most of her fights most demons fear her and there are statements putting her on the level of meliodas, zeldris and the Archangels so the supreme deity is the only one with the power to punish her Also it's a taboo to fall in love with the enemy no matter what race you are tbh its seen as treason
