the gimbal operates as it was designed to...smooth fluid movement, not free swinging ball bearing merry go round movement..all the people who are changing bearings to get them to spin like a top are screwing up the intended purpose...which is to get a smooth sweep with a bit of resistance and controlled fluid movement ... thats why they have bushings in them with that really sticky gunk in them..that stuff is supposed to restrict movement just enough to get a fluid swing and up and down arc..
@avalanwa6 жыл бұрын
I thought I was the only one. This is ridiculous and unusable. Smh.
@TheNewMexicoMan5 жыл бұрын
I disagree! The tension with the adjustment knobs is what is supposed to restrict movement just enough to get a fluid swing and up and down. I want to choose between it free spinning and restricting moment! That sticky gunk is horrible. It's too bad I had to rebuild it myself and still it does not move as freely as I need it to while tracking birds or shooting sports!

When this video started I thought it was going to be as simple as; remove polyurethane parts and replace with bearings. then somewhere in the middle it turned into some major engineering project. Too much like hard work for a slightly more fluid gimbal
@forsterl.stewart4143 жыл бұрын
Did all this work when just a cleaning and decreasing will be sufficient. I get great results with a Bieke47 and two YELANGU A17. Without all this machining. But kudos to you for taking the time to physically change the design to fit your needs.

I bought the same gimble head, I was just wondering what bearings you used?
@chrisbennett29774 жыл бұрын
Just a tip: The lower pan bearing needs a washer the size of the inner race to space it away from the base The outer race is in contact with the base . It is not acting as a bearing the way you have assembled it.

It is hard to modify the head with bearings, unless you have tools. May be Neewer saw this video & improve their product.

No lighter weight grease was reapplied. Unacceptable by my standards. The the use of power grinder? Not needed! I found another video that seems a lot more appropriate.

Which video please?
@denniscrabtree21704 жыл бұрын
@@Thesrin I changed my mind on what to do. I ended up removing as much as that heavy grease as possible. I did apply a small amount of lithium grease on the bolt that controls whether the unit can turn or not. I also applied a small amount to the bolt that controls the arm holding the camera. That allows it to pivot more smoothly while shooting action like birds in flight. All this work seemed to make the unit operate more smoothly.

Great work. But you'd need the tools and bit of engineering knowledge to do the job. You should modify them and resell on Ebay.

Why go through all that instead of spending a few more bucks to buy a better gimbal?
@MegaSawfish6 жыл бұрын
It's more than a few bucks. The Neewer is a good product with a terrible lubricant. replace the lube with a normal one and it works great. At $57, it is an amazing value.
@chingo36256 жыл бұрын
Mr. Tang does not think the way as you. First, skill, second, material, third, tools required to to the assembly. All these cost more than a Wim ... one.
@johnwalsh83163 жыл бұрын
600 bucks for a Wimberley, and 80 bucks for this imitation and an hours worth of cleaning and degreasing, pretty easy decision for an old retired guy like me who uses it three or four months a winter. I wish I could afford a WH200, but on my retired income, I just have to deal with the regreasing. I do have an old sidekick for my old Acratech head

Would there be any way to do it without machining the pieces? Don't waste your money on this trash! I took it to Alaska and I threw it away when I got home. What a waste of money! I rebuilt it before I left, removing the sticky crap and re-lubed it, and it still was horrible tracking birds and was totally unreliable! I replaced it with an Acra-Swiss Z1+ duel pivot ballhead and a Wimberley sidekick to have a great ballhead and a gimbal head action. Yep it was expensive but in the case, quality counts.
