Wowee, you're very perceptive to be able to spot and realize the significance of the rather insignificant map screen alteration, it really does help. I find it very interesting that what you feel are this game's faults are what I believe to be its strengths, isn't that beautiful~??

Ill have to check these GBA titles out. I can never get enough 2D Castlevania. Have you heard of the game coming out in 2018 called Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night? It was a Kickstarter project that has raised over 5,5mil and looks alot like Aria of Sorrow. Its just reassuring to know that even if Konami completely goes away from these types of games there will still be in a huge demand for them, and other companies will be willing to make them . 5.5 mil raised for a 2D Metroidvania style game. Id say the people have spoken.

Not enough backtracking? Never heard of that as a complaint before but if you found the game too easy you must be a very big fan of the grind. This game has a huge difficulty spike halfway through and if you haven't spent time grinding it makes the rest of the game a nightmare.

Yeah, if you think it's easy try to speed run it. You'll be surprised at how different it is.

I owned this game when it came out and stupidly sold it CIB on Amazon quite a few years ago. Ugh, it's way too expensive now. Ah well. Not my favorite...Circle Jerk of the Moon is more fun in my opinion. ;)

I could never decide which was my favorite Castlevania. This or Simon's Quest. I attribute much of my affinity to Castlevania II to it being my introduction to the series and I kind of associate it with a very fun chapter of my life, particularly in gaming. To be fair, the game did have haunting environs and a legendary soundtrack even if it was comprised of only about 7 tracks total. That being said, to me, Aria of Sorrow was Symphony of the Night with all the fat trimmed. And by that, I mean no more inverted castle. I may be in the minority on this but I HATED having to do that castle all over again...and upside down. Other than that, it had everything I loved about Symphony of the Night plus the souls system. If you take the time to experiment with the various souls, some of them were REALLY kick ass! I also like this games particular setting and story. This was literally the only Castlevania game to not only NOT take place in the past, but in the future (that at this point, is rapidly becoming the present). I loved the music, the rather bright color scheme yet still somehow conveying darkness, the control, the castle layout, and the character design. I mean, you play as an exchange student studying in Japan who wears bell bottoms and a pimp coat (with shoes to match)! And it's also the first game where you (SPOILER!!!) play as the series antagonist! Good memories and good times with this game. I would say it's about time to revisit but I've far too many Metroidvanias I haven't given their proper due to go back to this, despite my affinity to it. Especially now that Bloodstained has finally released.

In retrospect, I MAY have played this one but didn't finish it because of the "weird" sub weapon change up. I always felt foolish that it seemed like such a little thing, but if it didn't sell you either, that makes me feel a bit better. Nice review man!

im planning to play this next year coz my emulator broke im buying a bluetooth controller to replace it.. i finished the Cir f moon and HoS i say Cir f d moon is better than HoS but the replay value of HoS is better coz you dont need a walkthrough unlike Cir f d moon where theres secrets
