Just discovering Bridge, and I’m delighted to see that I can learn and play without long drives and scheduling card games. That will come, but right now, I am enjoying learning from generous folks like you.b

I've gone back to this time and again. It is wonderful example of how to explain something with examples (& exceptions). Thanks.

Seq 1C -1S -double -pass-what should opener bid if he has only 3 hearts n no control in spadem
@bridgelesson2 күн бұрын
@@anilkumarsharma8547 great question and sometimes this will happen. This player hopefully can rebid their 5 card club suit (usually present in this setup). However if they have something like 4-3-3-3 they are truly stuck for a bid. 1NT (if the 4 card suit is spades) still might be an option but some rare times call for bidding your 3 card heart suit . The good thing is that this sequence almost never happens when you don’t have a reasonable bid to make. But it can rarely.

Question: More than once, I heard in the video that the form of a negative double is that partner opens and RHO overcalls in a suit. I learned that partner's opening bid must be a suit at the 1-level. If partner opens 1NT or 2H, RHO overcalls in a suit, a double by responder is not negative. Is this correct? Are there exceptions to this?
@bridgelesson2 жыл бұрын
Terrific question Steve! It is actually pretty standard to play doubles as “negative-ish” after it goes 1NT and then a natural two level overcall (not 2C). In today’s game however, many partnerships are not making purely natural overcalls after our 1NT openings. They’re playing things like Cappelleti, DONT, Meckwell … etc. When they DO make a natural overcall though we should be playing doubles as similar to the negative doubles described in this lesson. Thanks Steve for helping me clarify this.

11:12 can't the neg dbl be a 4-3 in the majors? and what to do with that 4-3 if you do not opt for a neg dbl. thanks.
@bridgelesson5 жыл бұрын
It would always be 4-4 in the Majors after "1C - 1D - X". At the two level; "1D - 2C - X" it doesn't have to be 4-4.

Following up on this 1D - 2C - X sequence ... assuming LHO passes, partner is forced to bid. If partner replies 2H and that's your 3-card major, what values do you need to continue with 2S?

10:50 I understand 4 hearts likely a good game but earlier you said the double in absolutely forcing and is thus unlimited, surely the correct bid here would be 2 spades? As slam may be on. Furthermore, after bidding 4h it would be up to your partner to bid 4nt and you're not going to be able to tell him about your solid diamond suit.
@bridgelesson6 жыл бұрын
David Turner David. 4H shows a very strong hand (a hand that can play game opposite 8pts.) So in this situation, you've shown your hand by bidding game when partner could have only 8 pts. If Slam is a possibility, partner will continue for us. Wanting to bid more with Qxx of Clubs is a bit too aggressive.

4H does show a very strong hand (a hand that can play game opposite partner's possible 8 pts.)
@davidturner52256 жыл бұрын
Give your partner the A of spades instead of the king and 6 is making, but theres no hope in hell of finding it if you bid fast...
@bridgelesson6 жыл бұрын
David Turner.... So you're missing the other huge plusses in partner's hand that are ridiculously helpful (JT of Diamonds and K of clubs). This is one of those hands that, even if partner has the A of Spades, we're never going to get there or want to try from either side. We're just playing results if we're not aware of that fact :-).
