Negative Questions & Question Tags

It's a great lesson. So, if you assume or expect the answer to be yes, you ask a negative question, but what if you assume or expect the answer to be no, what do you ask? Example: You haven't had any chance to learn how to swim. ?

Two examples, in first I expect the answer to be yes, in second I expect the answer to be no: You've had every chance to learn how to swim. Can't you swim now? You haven't really had any chance to learn how to swim. ****?

Good question! If you expect the answer to be "no," you'd use a negative statement / positive question tag: You've never taken swimming lessons. You can't swim, can you? That old shirt is full of holes. You won't keep it, will you? Your mom's birthday was yesterday. You didn't forget, did you?

Thanks a lot for the lesson. To me it's easy to answer positive question tags , but I sm always confused to respond to the questions with negative sentences and positive question tags. I would like to make it clear. For example: You didn't meet John yesterday, did you?

Good question! Just respond to the end of the question tag as though it were a question ("Did you meet John?") So if someone says: "You didn't meet John yesterday, did you?" "No / Nope / No, I didn't" "You didn't meet John yesterday, did you?" "I did / Yes, I did / Actually, I did"
