Yes, Nehru was the worst leader, and he can never be compared to the greats like Mao Zedong or Lee Kuan Yew. Sure, Mao Zedong was a terrible economic administrator, but he was a GREAT military leader. He won the Chinese civil war against Taiwan, Incorporated 1.2 million square kilometers of the land of Tibet into China, and even expanded Chinese territory by winning the 1962 war. His military and political conquests solidified the base on which China grew. On the other hand, Nehru LOST the war against partition and was unable to prevent the making of Pakistan. He ended the 1948 Indo Pak war in a stalemate and lost the 1962 war as well. He made diplomatic blunders of refusing the UN permanent seat, giving the Gwadar port to Pakistan and also gave some island to Burma! He was a terrible military leader. Now leave the aside, He was a terrible economic leader as well. Under him, India promoted 'Nehruvian Socialism', and made the error of siding with the communist soviet union rather than the capitalist America. In other words, he was NOT a great economic reformer like Lee Kuan Yew or Deng Xiao Ping. In short Nehru was terrible militarily and economically and was also corrupt. He create the Nehru Gandhi political family of Him, His Daughter, His Grand-Son, His Grand-son's wife and His great grandson. The criminals looted India, stifled her growth and caused India to have a GDP that is 5-6 times lower than that of China. Nehru was a great criminal and an idiot who graduated in 2nd class. 1 . Nehru’s obsession with China costed us a Veto power in UN ( he refused to become a permanent member of UN even though USSR & US sent the proposal twice ) and also resulted in successful invasion of Tibet by China ( as Nehru was the one who supplied Rice to the Chinese soldiers without which Chinese soldiers wouldn’t have survived , even when Indians were dying due to hunger ) . It was because of his decision we have a hostile border with China otherwise we would have had a peaceful border with Tibet so , billions of dollars of money spent on defence could have been spent somewhere else . 2 . He was a kind of leader who left then Assam when it was getting invaded by China ( which was approximately 70% of today’s NorthEast ) . 3 . Credit of uniting India goes to Sardar Patel only not Nehru . When internal elections for leadership of Congress took place Sardar Patel won ( but he along with Gandhi staged a coup and dethroned him of leadership ) such was his nature . 4 . In 1946’s Navy Mutiny when India was on the brink of Independence without getting partitioned and the entire country had stated revolting , he along with other congress members convinced the citizens to stop because if they would have revolted more for a day or 2 , 25 lakh INA who were unaware of this mutiny would have come to know about this which would result in overthrowing of British in a matter of hours which in turn would lead to no partition and they wouldn’t have been given the country to rule . His lust for ruling the country was more important to him than goodwill of the citizens . He was a British bootlicker . PS :- I am not a Modi andhbhakt who sole aim is to defame Nehru . I believe in facts . ☮️

As a child who was born in Nehru's India, I still have admiration for the man who guided India as the first Prime Minister. Jawaharlal Nehru was a product of Harrow and Cambridge. He was more English than some of the English themselves. As a Fabian Socialist, his vision of an independent India is open to scorn now. He was much revered in the world, and took his place as other independent nation builders (Tito & Nasser). Where would India be today without the emphasis on education and English as directed by Nehru? Sadly diminished as we can see. The strategy of import substitution, diversity as strength and a sense of achievement has left the nation with a legacy few can equal.

1. Rejected a permanent seat at the UN 2. Rejected Nepal’s offer to join Bharat 3. Rejected Balochistan’s offer to join Bharat 4. Created the Kashmir issue 5. Presided over the disastrous Sino-Bharat war 6. Refusal To Enter Nuclear Deal 7. Nehru rejected a US offer of helping Bharat with the development of a nuclear device in 1964 perhaps because he was a proponent of non-violence. 8. Led the ill-conceived Non-Aligned Movement 9. Indifference towards Goa 10. Favoured Socialism instead of free-market Capitalism. 11. Ignored Corruption 12. Clung to Power for too long 13. Curbed journalistic freedom and freedom of expression 14. Pakistan reciprocated Nehru's gesture of goodwill by invading Bharat just five years later. 23. Hostility towards Sardar Patel's restoration of the Somnath Temple 24. Obstructing Sardar Patel's plan to liberate Hyderabad from the murderous Nizam 25. Nehru had a total impractical approach to integrating Kashmir with rest of Bharat. He didn't allow Sardar Patel to deal with Kashmir issue. Patel was quite successful in integrating other troubled regions such as Hyderabad Nizam's province with Bharat. 26. During the Bharat-Pak war of 1948 when Bharat was gaining back the Kashmir captured by the invaders, he prematurely went to the UN Security Council. This was a great strategic mistake. Bharat now wants to distance itself from 3rd party intervention in the dispute and the UN resolutions on this, but it is Nehru who did it in the first place. 27. @@nikhilvijay6022 Historical Context Early UN Dynamics: After World War II, the UNSC was formed with five permanent members: the United States, the Soviet Union, China, France, and the United Kingdom. The idea of expanding the permanent membership to include other countries has been discussed periodically since then. Nehru's Stance on Global Politics: Nehru was known for his non-aligned movement stance, seeking to keep India independent from the US-Soviet Cold War dichotomy. He often advocated for a more inclusive and representative global governance structure. Specific Claims and Rebuttals Offer of Permanent Seat: Some historians and sources claim that in the 1950s, the United States offered India a permanent seat at the UNSC, possibly replacing China during its exclusion from 1949 to 1971. Nehru is said to have declined this offer, suggesting instead that the seat should go to China, emphasizing India's commitment to supporting China's rightful place in global politics. Primary Sources and Documentation: B.N. Mullick's Memoirs: B.N. Mullick, the then Director of the Indian Intelligence Bureau, in his memoirs mentioned Nehru’s refusal to entertain the idea of replacing China. Letters and Speeches: Nehru’s correspondence and speeches reflect his belief in maintaining China’s position in the UN as crucial for Asian solidarity and balance. Critiques and Analyses: Scholarly Articles: Scholars like Dr. Rajeshwar Dayal have discussed Nehru’s decision within the broader context of his foreign policy and internationalism. Indian Government Stance: Official records and responses from the Indian government have reiterated that Nehru prioritized a multipolar world order and did not see India’s future aligned with Cold War power politics
@SABYASACHIPRADHAN-n9b4 ай бұрын
@@nikhilvijay6022 Proof 1: Memoirs of B.N. Mullick Source: B.N. Mullick’s Memoirs Evidence: B.N. Mullick, the then Director of the Indian Intelligence Bureau, in his memoirs titled “My Years with Nehru: The Chinese Betrayal,” mentions that Nepal’s Prime Minister, Mohan Shamsher Rana, made an informal proposal for Nepal to merge with India in the early 1950s. Mullick states that Nehru firmly declined this offer, emphasizing the importance of Nepal maintaining its independence and sovereignty. Relevance: Mullick’s position and his direct communication with Nehru provide a credible account of this diplomatic exchange. Proof 2: Nehru's Non-Expansionist Foreign Policy Source: Nehru’s Public Statements and Correspondence Evidence: Nehru’s speeches and writings frequently emphasized respect for the sovereignty of all nations, particularly neighboring countries like Nepal. In correspondence with King Tribhuvan and later King Mahendra, Nehru reiterated India’s support for Nepal’s independence. For example, Nehru’s letters archived in the “Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru” reflect his commitment to Nepal’s sovereignty. Relevance: These documents demonstrate Nehru’s consistent foreign policy approach, which was non-expansionist and respectful of national sovereignty. Proof 3: Scholarly Analysis Source: Works by S.D. Muni and Other Scholars Evidence: S.D. Muni, an expert on India-Nepal relations, has analyzed the historical context and documented instances where Nehru supported Nepal’s independence. In his book “India and Nepal: A Changing Relationship,” Muni discusses how Nehru’s vision for South Asia included a network of sovereign states cooperating peacefully rather than territorial expansion. Relevance: Scholarly analyses provide an objective review of historical events and Nehru’s policies, reinforcing the claim with academic rigor. Proof 4: The 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship Source: The 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty Evidence: The treaty established close strategic and economic ties between India and Nepal but did not imply any loss of sovereignty for Nepal. Article 1 of the treaty states that “there shall be everlasting peace and friendship between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal.” Relevance: The treaty is a formal document underscoring Nehru’s policy to maintain Nepal as a sovereign state while fostering close relations. Proof 5: Diplomatic Records and Statements Source: Diplomatic Records from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Evidence: Records of diplomatic communications and policy documents from the Ministry of External Affairs during Nehru’s tenure show that India consistently supported Nepal’s status as an independent nation. Official statements made by Indian representatives at international forums, such as the United Nations, affirm this stance. Relevance: These records provide a clear picture of India’s official policy and Nehru’s directives concerning Nepal.

So whoever thinks Nehru was a 'GREAT' leader should get their brains checked. PERIOD.

Democracy was for the developed countries who experimented first with tyranny,dictatorship,fascism and monarchy...India was the first ever developing country who made democracy work...and for that Panditji deserves a lot of credit. In the late 40s,several colonies in Asia/Africa gained independence and most of them ended up becoming dictator led...except India...for that too Panditji deserves a lot of credit...a brilliant writer,deep thinker and a global statesman. People often badmouth Nehru for the caste or religious differences, or for the Kashmir issue. But the thing is, no one views history by standing in his position. He had to make concessions to different religious groups and Ambedkar had to make provisions like reservations in electorates, because it was in the 1940s, and partition had wrecked havoc on the country. He had to make peace between different communities post the violence. So it was obvious compromises had to be made. Ambedkar even mentioned that the compromises were temporary, so that they can get rid of them when India was properly on it's feet. In the case of Kashmir, Nehru saw the "noble" rhetoric of the UK and US leaders (especially when they were fighting WW2, portraying themselves as "crusaders for good") and hoped that the UN would side with India when he approached them on the Kashmir issue. The problem was, all that rhetoric had faded away, and they found the more right wing Pakistan as a better ally than the socialist India, and sided with Pakistan. The (aparently) mistakes made by Nehru just after Independence (for which he is bashed) are all decisions made to hold a burning country together, in times of communal tensions, to prevent further break up of the country. We need to observe the timescale in context, when we judge the decisions. Looking back with hindsight is easy for us now, but without context of the situation, it will be a wrong assessment.

@@sup1801 @Sup Your information at best is misinformation. Nehru was not fighting a war against partition. Partition happen because of divisive forces on two extremes. At one end was extremist Hindus like the Mahasabha and the RSS. On, the other extreme lied the Muslim league. If you want to blame someone so haughtily blame either the hindu right or the British. The Britishers used Muslims too divide and rule. They allowed the first aligarh college to be built and run. They made provisions for the Muslims to be given more power and reserved seats in preliminary policy making. Muslims started deviating from the mainstream crowd when the cow cebtric riots happened since before. There were two extremes. But since Muslims were minority and had to project themselves at the victims they got their piece of cake. Muslims are not a monolithic community in India. Muslims might exist everywhere but mainly two muslim groups followed by ashraf and ailaf. The majority landed in Bangladesh who were lower caste converts and peasants known as Ailaf. Ashrafs were educated community from UP. They were being played pawns by the British to inculcate step brotherly behavior. Why did all the electorate reservations ended up in their favour. Or it can also mean limited govt establishment by the likes of Lithingow was carefully designed. And China did not annex Taiwan. China was Taiwan. Rhe ROC was the legacy rulers of China. The movement of communism began and that led the ROC to flee and land in Taiwan, they were mandated the rights by diplomatic means. Or else ROC has lost leverage in their own country and political demography. Nehru is also an important character because of the nature of freedom movement persisting in India. Yes Nehrus policies failed for the most part but not US or the soviets. Nehru wanted to remain free of western powers. India was too fragile even at that time. There was a dissatisfied hindu population regarding hindu code bill. There is secessionist tendencies in the border regions and the North East. Indulging in a ruthless military campaign and getting fixiated on the US would have only made India a pawn to balkanization. A lot of manpower, commitment was needed to keep the country together. There were issues with official languages. About territorial limits etc. So, yes Nehru did his best what he can. And Nehru instigated China there is plenty of proof even under the documents of the US through a patrolling technique. If he would have not had the audacity to take on China which again needs understanding, he wouldn't have accepted the Dalai Lama. Why would anyone want that? The Chinese would own the South China Sea and the Pacific. India could trade with the east Asia. And since the newly industrialized Japan was booming with entreprenurial spirit it would have helped India so much. That's how South Korea and singapore took off. As Ambedkar said once, all problems lie with the nature of inequality India has. He made that India can only change itself when the people sitting at the top knows bo reformation can happen without changing the social heirarchial structures. Even Nehru wanted to empower the farmers, just like the Chinese were doing by giving them primitive capital, but societally ills continued. When hindu code bill was tabled. Ambedkar had to make so many changes and he get to pass only a compromised bill, that also in phases. Things could have been better because of Gandhi but then the hindu right finished him. Gandhi was more hindu than so called milk teeth patriots.

Nehru 's Kashmir policy was not a mistake he did the correct thing by approaching United Nations and praying for status quo. He was extremely judgmental in approaching United Nations.Otherwise Pakistan would have United Nations and United Nations would have ordered plebiscite in Kashmir giving people of Kashmir option to remain either in India or in Pakistan like it happened in Junagadh or Hyderabad. In that case majority of people of Kashmir would have opted to join Pakistan in that case whole of Kashmir would have gone to Pakistan. So Nehru's preemptive actions regarding Kashmir must be lauded instead of being criticised.

@@sup1801 Your information at best is misinformation.

@@kallolpoetry Did the Hindu right wing want partition or did Jinnah want partition? Even today, RSS advocates for an Akhand Bharat or a reunited India. So saying that RSS wanted partition is a load of bull. Even today Mohan Bhagwat talks about merger. Personally, I think Akhand Bharat is a really dumb idea. One only needs to look at Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq, Iran, Mali, Somalia, Libya, Jordan and other countries to realize that peaceful community produces instability and anarchy where ever it goes. If Arabs didn't find oil, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE would be like Afghanistan. Dont forget where Bin Laden was born.

@@sup1801 Nope the hindu right wanted a hindu rashtra. They claimed for hindu country and did not even take part in the freedom struggle. Whatever their idea was about India it was really effed up. Or else they would have won elections. They did not they always ended up in coalition with Muslim league only. As a hindu myself, I know hinduism is not from a scriptual point of view is violent. Comparitively to monotheism. But, saying Iran, Iraq or all these nations are just terrorist is not right. Within our own country if LTTE had attacked any North indians the Tamils would have supported them if Hindi had to be imposed. There were extermists in Punjab, north east. Now things are normal but many socio economic realities lead to terror activities. If you know Iraq, lebanon and syria all these nations began being in turmoil when Iran and Saudi started fighting for power in the middle East. And the US backed these terrorists from ISIS to haothis, so, it's not entirely a region s fault but rather the turmoil is in the roots of these issues. Taliban was US's creation same with Alqaeda to oust the soviets. If you strengthen right wing sentiment for geopolitical interest you will either land up as Yemen or Syria. Yemen gets bombed by Saudis. Iran funds the Haothis. Israel is within both Saudi and US camp for obvious reasons. It's a question of power and absorption as much as it is about religion.

The fact that we need this video shows the level of public debate. So, I am wondering, was making this video as depressing as watching it is?
@ayush8853 жыл бұрын
We need this video because times change, and comparing anyone of the past with today's standards will make them a villain. Nehru did do many good things, but his successors in the Congress failed to modernize with time. 1. Nehru was secular (leaning a little towards the minorities), his successors turned it into full fledged appeasement (for example Shah Bano case). 2. Socialist economy. At that time, socialist economy might've seemed necessary, but his successors failed to switch to a capitalist economy. His own faults which still hurt India : 1. 1962 war. China still holds that land, which is still an issue. 2. 1948 war. He could've taken back whole POK, but he sued for peace. If India had direct access to Afganistan, Pakistan's geographic leverage would be much less.

My late father and my now surviving father in law are direct beneficiary of Nehru actions. My father worked in IIT madras and my father in law in BHEL Hyderabad. Both Nehru created institutions. It pains me when people criticise him today. Also Nehru ensured that India did not become a fanatic and failed disintegrated state like many new independent nations became after securing independence from British
