Doug, it's been awhile since I heard from Neil Diamond Central and I must admit that your timing is impeccable! I so love this masterpiece by Neil written some five decades ago. His voice just sends me to the highest of heights and am impressed by his extension of the word, 'Be'. So spirit-filled and uplifting during these days. I have the book and the DVD and the album. I saw this movie as a kid when it came out in 1973. It is 2022 and it still makes me cry! This music speaks to something in me that is completely and utterly indescribable! The spirit, innocence, strength and weakness of this bird; his desperate want to please his father. It speaks to our, well some of us, of our want to please our Holy Father. We have all of Jonathan's traits too. And with the chaos going on now in our world, we would want to try to treat each other better, with respect, kindness, equality, with a helping hand and love. We hear of Sweet Caroline all of the time. We need to hear more of these songs! Thank you Mr. Neil Diamond for this childhood treasure that I will forever TREASURE! Whew Mercy Lord!!

I have loved Neil Diamond’s songs since he began singing. I’m 88 years old and I still play his music at home and in my car. His songs are so unique and soul stirring which say so much about his spirit. I’m so grateful to have lived at the same time as Neil on this planet, and hope that I’ll hear him singing for eternity. I’m almost 80 and the first time I heard one of Neil’s songs I was hooked forever. I think he was performing on ‘The Smothers Brothers’ TV show. I have gone to many of his concerts and gotten all his albums and played them till the needles of my record player were worn out! My granddaughters grew up with his music because that is all I ever played. Love this wonderful man and his amazing music! God did it right when he made Neil. My story - *'I AM... I SAID'* _This has to be my absolute favourite Neil Diamond song. Heard this song on the radio a couple of times back in 1971, and I was hooked. I listened intently for the name of the singer and the song, and then headed out to my nearest music store. On arrival at the store, I discovered that this, to me then, unknown singer, had two albums (LPs). One was 'Sweet Caroline' and the other was 'Stones'. I then did something that I had never done before... I purchased not one, but both albums, my purchase being made solely on having heard only one song from this singer. This song so moved me..._ _"... I got an emptiness deep inside and I've tried but it won't let me go..."_ _The pain, the tortured cries. This was even more evident in 'I Am... I Said (Reprise)'. Neil's voice, his sincerity and pain, tugged at my heartstrings; he touched my soul. I felt his loss, his pain, for I too, was experiencing those emotions (The story's the same one). For the Christians in our group, I am drawn to the line "And we dance to a whispered voice, overheard by the soul undertook by the heart ...You may know it." In it, I am reminded of how the Holy Spirit enters into our being and transforms us so that our heart finds joy in being and not pursuing the meaningless material world. I want to share Jonathan with my grandkids in the hope that they can, in time, intellectually know that there is a path to Jesus that will bring unimaginable joy but there will be a cost, the world will dismiss you, reject you, and try to hurt you but to see far you must soar high. I pray that before I die, having already battled cancer, I will enjoy the privilege of knowing that they are saved and free to Be.

Someone said to me to read the book and there were 4 words in the whole book that stood out to me "Keep working on love" page 59 and Neil Diamond was one of my father's favorite singers and one day I was directed to this by listening to Neil Diamond whilst thinking of my dad, so to have those words and Neil Diamond singing is such a sign for me of what my father wants me to do. Hello Doug. I may have come late to this party, but I was there at the start. In 1966 I heard music through my radio that was not like the typical top 40. Finding that a fellow named Neil was responsible I began buying the albums, singles, 8 tracks, cassettes, CD's and on and on. I loved the way Neil wrote then, they way he wrote through the years. His delivery and performance of the songs was a journey every time, every one. I found that my range was compatible with the way Neil sang his songs and I could take my guitar to the lake or to the tennis courts and sing with my friends. We sang many a campfire lit night, us and Neil. For through the magic of his songs he was with us in spirit. 22 times I saw Neil in live performances on stage. Finding your Neil Diamond Central has been a gift from my past. Now I get to play and sing along and relive some of the best moments of my life. Thank you Doug for keeping Neil's music alive. For it was part of the fabric of my generations lives.

I remember all the hoopla when the book came out. So much hoopla, I got sick of hearing about it. And tuned it out. Many(!) years later, I found a copy of the book in a 2nd hand store and bought it, thinking I would read it. Just the other day, I was going through a book case at home, trying to downsize. I found the book and put it in the “Donation” box. After listening to this video, I pulled it out of the box. It will be read before it gets returned to the box.

Neil diamond is a classic! Did you know that he and Barbra Streisand grew up together as children in the same block in New York? They used to play on the streets together. And then their families went their separate ways and out pop two incredible voices for the history books. The only reference Neil has ever made is that both he and Barbra were at Erasmus High, being that they were both in the choir, him with the baritones and Barbra with the sopranos and that Barbra was madly in love with the music teacher/conductor, a handsome Italian man with long, flowing black hair. @@NeilDiamondCentral no Doug I'm not from Brooklyn from Ohio did some time in Indiana. I heard this story years ago either on Johnny Carson or something else that they were together being interviewed and they told that story and I thought it was just so cool! If I'm not mistaken neither one of them had any money and Neil's Daddy wanted him to take over there to his family business and of course singing songs was silly. I know less about Barbara Streisand's early days there but they did live on the same block so and I don't think she wanted to grow up to be a singer at that time and I don't know if Neil was riding music and his childhood but he was a songwriter not first set out to sing I'm pretty up there in age and I've been a Neil diamond fan forever. I have only been to two concerts in my life both were his and I was recently shocked that he sold all of his music and writings and everything recently

@@NeilDiamondCentral no I don't know Sandy I'm down in Butler county or city of Hamilton bottom western side below Dayton. I did do a little research and yeah they went to the same school and they would sit on the steps to the place where they pick out chorus people or whatever and they were in the in the chorus together I don't know if it was at the synagogue or at school or later on. And I also read that Barbara had money in her family until her father died when she was very early a very young and then her mother had to work and so her mother's sang so she was always involved in music that way which I didn't know that but like I said I heard that story the two of them telling the story of a new each other and at a young young age and the candy could only be gone in this one little store in New York where they were and that's where the candy comes in if they're in New York they will pick up the other one's favorite that can only be gotten there and mail it to them and I believe it's licorice and rock candy but I'm not sure who likes what. I just wonder if the royalties in the future that the family would have gotten well whoever he said would get would gotten since it's been sold to this company and they can do what they want with it.. well I don't understand all I know about that, I'm sure there's some kind of arrangement. As to Jonathan Livingston seagull I love that book and be Jonathan b always awesome. The original had three chapters in it and I had just recently at several years back I just recently gotten it out I was reading it to my granddaughter and unfortunately someone spilled something on it and ruined it and I was heartbroken demanded they replace it so they finally got around to replacing it but it has four chapters in it now and I don't have the original Three chapter to compare with where they put a forge after in and honestly I haven't read the new book

I didn't know Neil Diamond at the time, more than 3 decades ago. Always heard about Jonathan Livingston seagull the book without digging further. Then the movie was re-released in a local theater, didn't know either about it. Decided to go by pure curiosity. Jeez, I was so not ready for the emotional journey AND Neil Diamond voice.... After the movie I went straight to my record shop and bought the CD, go the bookshop and get the book and years later I bought the DVD. Oh and in between i bought a lot of Neil Diamond records. His voice is so great. I can stay long period of time without listening to him but when I do I always start with JLS. 😁

Blown away a long long time ago (last year of school mid-1970's) - still blowing in the wind. Or rather flying....like my soulmate, Jonathan the Skybird. No hope of coming down, not much wish to. As - up there, am listening again to this Voice of voices that's not even a voice - it's a soul, something we don't see, only feel. No words to describe this magic.
