I’m very sad that I never got to live in a time that this music came out of, so much optimism. For all of the developments we made in the 21st century, I think we also lost a lot of hope.

Never give up hope. The great things in life that matter, like this music, are timeless and will always matter as long as we keep the spirit alive! You didn't even live at that time and yet it has value and matters, that says a lot. Have a great day!

The 1960's was truly the U.S. and U.K's zenith. The popular art and music confirms it. I lived in it and, to watch commercials and things that were iconic to the times almost seems too wonderful to have ever been true. All that's left is to find out who pioisoned the well. People with eyes to see and ears to hear know full well who did it; including how and why.

Making music like this is a lost art. Think of all the time and effort it took to compose these line by line. The amount of dedication and skill it takes for a musician to sight read scores. You're listening to a culmination of hundreds of instruments being played together to create beautiful sounds. There is really nothing quite like the real thing.

I'm glad someone took the trouble to compile this. Neil was second to none with KPM & all his other arrangements. Just listen to his version of 'Laura'!! It's great & beautiful. But, for those of us who "were there back then" this is the kind of music most 20-somethings & younger (back then) laughed at & despised. "Only old people play this (type of) stuff on the radio in their cars" & other rude things. So yes, I love this music nowadays, but if you were 'a kid' back then, you had to hide the fact that you liked it. So anyway......thanks goodness for recorded sound. 🙂

People are more creative and prosperous when the government invests in public purpose. That's what's been incrementally taken away these past 50 years. A quality living standard is when banks and monopolies don't interfere with public finance, where they have no business being involved.

"During the 1960s-1990s, he was an arranger and conductor of various BBC Radio Orchestras, working on programmes such as String Sound and The Radio Orchestra Show.[2] He was a prolific composer of library music for companies such as KPM, and his music has been used in numerous TV, film and radio productions" - Wikipedia
@paul756uk2 Жыл бұрын
I got to know Neil when he conducted the northern radio orchestra. I was so impressed with arrangements so I wrote to him asking about various pieces. Turned out most of the arrangements were done by others but I used to write regularly to Neil and he always wrote back. I visited the playhouse theatre in Hulme and sat in the studio for a day listening to the recordings. Eventually Neil went on to conduct the radio orchestra and I visited there on a number of occasions. One of them was the Monday before the Saturday that I got married. I invited him and couldn't believe that he said he'd come. He was such a lovely man. When I arrived at the studios in Manchester he asked the producer through the mic if I'd arrived yet so he remembered he was expecting me and I remember little things like that despite being around 18 at the time. He eventually moved to Spain and after a few years of losing contact we emailed each other. He sent me recordings of the Neil Richardson singers and believe it or not he asked if I had a copy of Firebird that I could send him as he didn't have one. I love his compositions and his arrangements are superb. The singers were in session when I visited on that Monday. The orchestra recorded in the morning and the singers recorded in the evening that time. I really miss those days.
