Peter Freebairn unveils ‘World You Choose’, the fourth single from his debut solo album, ‘Silhouettes and Cigarettes’. The Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist delivers a compelling blend of relatable storytelling and vibrant acoustic energy. The track was released on Friday, August 2nd, 2024.
‘World You Choose’ is adult pop-rock that explores themes of responsibility, self-awareness, and the power of personal decisions. Freebairn recently commented on the song’s origins: “(It’s) a song for my two daughters who were travelling overseas for a period of time. It was my way of wishing them safe and happy travels.”

An acoustic guitar opens the door to the listener’s mind as Freebairn’s Tom Petty style vocal opens like a gentle muse stirring a sleeping flame. The initial notes are a soft, tentative spark. The McCartney-esqe Hofner style bass line sends a signal to Freebairn’s drummer, Paul Boyle, to start stoking the fire that gradually builds into a warm, vibrant blaze.
The melody in ‘World You Choose’ is beautifully crafted, with a blend of uplifting and melancholic tones that enhance the lyrical emphasis along with its mixture of acoustic, string and electronic elements creating a lush soundscape.
Freebairn's vintage songwriting style carries through to his recording and production work. His appreciation for retro guitar-driven pop and 1960s George Martin recording methods shines in "World You Choose" and throughout his album ‘Silhouettes and Cigarettes’. He has recently signed with the independent label Pop Preservation Society, which released "World You Choose" on August 2nd across all major digital platforms.
