Been a big fan for over 40yrs but some how just discovered this song recently listen to it several times a week now. Now one of my top 10 neil songs....thrasher, cowgirl in the sand, the old laughing lady, pochontas, like a hurricaine, natural beauty, war of man, so many more...

@@brianhuff6973 you have excellent taste in Neil's catalog. I am a fond member of the summer of '69 ; so my 1st were Heart of Gold , Old Man . I listen to various versions of Cortez, and each one is distinctly his. Crazy Horse, and POTR each have a different sound. Happy listening 🎧.☮️🎶

It is not a song ..it s a spiritual experience that encapsulates what it is to live and experience a life as a human being!!! This was before Manifest Destiny. Exhumed from the fragile eggshell mind of a 15 yr. Old boy...Neil Young

It is a song. The greatest song played in his time. The guitar playing was superb . Couldn't get much better. His talent extends way before his time. Neil Young is a legend that will live past eternity. We love you Neil. You are the best!!!!!!!

His performance of this song in Regina Saskatchewan Canada in 1996 has to be the best I've experienced. It was a 17 min version. His vocals didn't come in until 9mins and 12 sec into the song. Poncho and Talbot were standing right up against Neil for this song. As I looked in the crowd beside me, I saw tears rolling down many faces. It was an emotional evening. Billy was really feeling it on this night. Neil was, too! He played the 2-hour concert in his boxer shorts. Not joking! If you want to hear a very similar performance of what I experienced in Regina, check out the video on here, a Rotterdam performance June 21, 2001. EPIC!!!!!!

"Hate was just a legend And war was never known" is a load of shite. The Mayas and Aztecs warred and murdered and enslaved other tribes to create their Empires. This is true throughout history, regardless of "race" or "group/tribe".

@pavanatanaya6 күн бұрын
@@TTSSYF23 The Mayans were gone before the Aztecs were around. There may have been some trade between the Mayan descendants and Montezuma. Cortez and Alvarado did a lot of nasty business with local tribes. Likely not warfare between Aztecs and Mayans Sepulveda and Las Casas debated the treatment and efficacy of enslavement. Spain chose to rely on the gold , instead of developing a cooperative system of Empire. Ferdinand and Issabella were as greedy as Columbus.

But he grew old- This knight so bold- And o’er his heart a shadow- Fell as he found No spot of ground That looked like Eldorado. And, as his strength Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim shadow- ‘Shadow,’ said he, ‘Where can it be- This land of Eldorado?’ ‘Over the Mountains Of the Moon, Down the Valley of the Shadow, Ride, boldly ride,’ The shade replied,- ‘If you seek for Eldorado!’

Love this song but you can hear the romanticism of his youth when it was written. "and war was never known". What a hoot! Most meso american nations were very warlike to the point of blood thirstiness. The Inca and Astec leading the way. Also, I think Ancient Alien folks might have trouble with the line" and they built up with their own hands" lol

No Ancient Aliens - they recently became able to read the Aztec glyphs. The Aztec's descendants now have a heritage and proud history. Ancient Aliens are a book hustle by Eric Von Daniken (who incidentally was convicted of fraud before he became an author.) That said, my favorite lines are: "I know she's living there.. she loves me to this day! I still can't remember how or when I lost my way." Wow! Where did that come from? It exists in a bubble, independent of the song. Must be some interesting history there!
