Duh of course Jimmy knows she can SING! :P He asks her if she can sing to get her to Talk about her singing and playing guitar for the movie. Its the whole point of the interview to get her to talk about those things, maybe he could have worded it differently and said "I know you sing, but what new songs did you learn for this movie?" or something like that, but honestly asking her if she Sings is just a way to get her to talk about it in a general sense come on people its not that hard to figure out what he meant by that. He asked her if she knows how to play guitar first which is really his main question here anyway not just rather or not she can sing, but she still answered both of his questions politely and knew what he meant by them so its not a big deal. People always just want focus on being negative for no good reason jeez. Also, every single person who watches the Tonight show doesn't know Meryl can sing just cause he knows she can, so Jimmy is asking for his entire audience here and abroad! The question is for people who might not know that about her, this show is seen in many countries, so I'm sure there are some people watching that don't think of Meryl Streep as a singer or guitar player, but may only know of her as an actress. Now people know more about her which is the whole point of the interview and for Jimmy asking that question! :P

I think Jimmy is just trying to get his guests excited, the more hyper he acts the more happy and excited his guests get. Meryl even got up and pretend to kick an amp and cursed like Neil Young for him. Normally she'd just sit down all proper and give a soft spoken boring interview, but that isn't exciting enough for television. He's actually a great host for guests cause he'll play the dorky awkward over active fanboy for them so they always look cooler and collected in comparison. Stars are use to being adored by people anyway if he didn't act that way they'd probably think he was rude or stuck up and wouldn't want to come back. He's much more mellow in his backstage videos then when he's live on camera, but NBC isn't paying him to sit there and not talk on a TALK SHOW.

Well that is your opinion. I don't think his interview skill Sucks, he could work on some things, but so could all the late night tv hosts. They are both funny people. Also, he didn't ask her stupid questions all questions are prescreened for these kinds of shows with the actors themselves, so Meryl likely knew he was going to ask her these questions and she gave good answers to them. Its HIS show, he is not going just sit there and not say a word while the guest ramble on and on , he's suppose to engage them in a conversation and laugh at their jokes that is exactly what he did, maybe you can't appreciate it, but too damn bad just don't watch then. No one will miss you. Meryl and Jimmy got along just fine.
