I'm a Professional Truck Driver. This is making me feel *VERY* good. The T-Series sleeper is inspired by a Kenworth Aerodyne sleeper from the early 90s/2000s, but the truck is inspired by old International 9300 headlights. Super excited for cabovers, I've always wanted to own my own in real life. American style cabovers beat Euro cabovers in looks 10/10. That blue switch, I believe is a timer to do with the engine starting. It's to warm up your truck/cool down your truck before you start/end the day. I've never dealt with trucks running this kind of a setup. The "Jake brake" (Jacobs Engine Braking system) is electronic variable valve timing that turns the engine into effectively a giant air compressor. Because Diesel engines don't use a throttle body a conventional gasoline would use, they can't really slow down just by letting off the gas. Semi trucks have 4 main ways of slowing down. Jake brake, friction brake, exhaust brake and the side of a building. Exhaust brakes don't slow you down that much, friction brakes fade and fail, Jake brakes can overrun. The combination of all 3 keeps a driver safe on the road. Twin stick transmissions, a drive and an aux box. 5 forward gears and a 4 aux making a total of 20 forward gears... When you push in the trailer air supply without a trailer, you're venting your reserve air into the atmosphere. IF it gets too low, it'll automatically pop back out and cut its self off. Usually it's too late. The yellow button is the air supply to the spring brakes, keeping them open. Once your truck loses air, they "dynamite" and there's no more air keeping the springs open, applying the brakes at about 3000lbs of force. Those funny mechanical implements on that orange container hauler hold containers in place. I don't know how strong they are in a crash, I've never hauled containers.

@@ferrettankror1 There's only one real discrepancy I can see right now, the 10 speed transmission is effectively a 5.5 speed. The Overdrive button isn't really a range selector but a gear splitter, adding about an extra 500RPM onto every gear (a half gear). Nothing too wrong with it, but it would accurately be a 5 speed with a lo-hi selector. Took a bit of getting used to, but I'm happy with it either way.

what you heard is the jake brake. What it does is it slightly retards the timing of the exhaust valve in the engine so on the combustion stroke; instead of the piston going down to produce power; the exhaust valve opens and the ignited mixture gets pushed out the exhaust (hence why you hear that distinct popping sound; that's the combustion cycle being sent out the exhaust). Hope this explanation helps. It was invented because trucks used to wear their brakes out going down steep grades so they needed another way to slow these beheamoths down. So why not turn the engine into a braking device; hence engine brake or jake brake (named after the company that invented it)
@TommyBravo Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but that explanation of a jake brake is completely wrong... . Basically, when you let of the go-go pedal, a blend of mechanical and solenoid actions completely change when the exhaust valve is open. Basic 4-stroke operation is 1-intake, 2-compression, 3-combustion/power, and 4-exhaust. When Jake brake is working, the 1st stroke is normal (in a diesel its just air), the 2nd stroke is key though because compression takes work or energy. This compression during the second stroke (both intake and exhaust valves are closed) is "driven" or created by the rolling drivetrain. The compression is then released at the top of the 2nd stroke by opening the exhaust valve to relieve cylinder pressure. All the work the drivetrain did to create the compression is released to the atmosphere and lost but that is the whole point to assist with braking and slowing down the rig. The popping sound is hearing the release of compressed air. 3rd stroke has no compression or fuel to ignite and the 4th stroke is also doing nothing because there is nothing to "exhaust".
@jondorthebrinkinator Жыл бұрын
The biggest reason compression braking is needed on a diesel is because they don't have a throttle like a gas engine does. In a gas engine, you get enough engine braking with the normal valve timing because it pulls a vacuum against the throttle valve. Diesels don't pull a vacuum, so the engine doesn't perform much work at all to pull in air and without popping the exhaust valve early, most of the energy used to compress the air is returned in the (non-)power stroke when it expands again. On older engines the jake brake valve opened directly to the atmosphere, making that distinctive super loud rumble, but more modern engines either use the regular exhaust valve or route both through the muffler to cut down noise.
@digitalrailroader Жыл бұрын
@@TommyBravo but overuse of a Jake brake can be extremely hard on the valve train to where it can cause very expensive damage!(back in my heavy equipment school days, we had a Sterling Acterra come in with a blown up caterpillar 3406E and it turned out that overuse of the Jake brake had snapped off several exhaust valves in a cylinder and completely shattered the aluminum two piece piston. Something that has always been missing in BeamNG is reactive environments. Now, when you hit a chain-link fence with a semi truck, the truck gets totaled. But in reality, the fence is getting messed up and the truck, not so much. Light poles, trees, buildings, even smaller rocks and such should react to impact by deforming, crumbling crushing or moving (or all of the above if appropriate) But, I'm sure that would chew up a TON of processor and make even higher tier PC's go into a meltdown of sorts.
@helgeschneider4417 Жыл бұрын
There already are chainlink gates, street signs and street lamps that deform, but you need to place them down yourself. You're probably right about the performance though. But maybe it could be programmed in a way that the destructible objects only turn destructible when the player is near.

Compression release engine braking (Jake brake) is using back-pressure on pistons to slow the vehicle in order to assist and conserve the normal wheel brakes. You can think of this like putting your finger over a hose that you're also trying to blow through or pushing an old-fashioned, manual tire pump with your finger over the nozzle. Engines are big air pumps, so adding back-pressure makes it harder for the engine to turn, thus providing braking action so long as the engine is still connected to the drive wheels through the transmission. It's literally an "engine brake" instead of a wheel brake. As diesel engines have very high compression ratios, there is a *lot* of pressure in the cylinder when the jake brake does release and this causes the very loud popping when that air is released. Jake brakes are outlawed in many city limits, but can be annoying if you live near a highway, interchange, or steep grade. They are very useful, though.

Neil, that noise is a compression brake. truck engines use them to aid in stopping very heavy loads. the service brakes alone will overheat on long descents. most "jake" brakes as theyre called are in sets of 3 usually controlling special valves in 2 cylinders each. at the top of each cylinder is a 5th valve that is opened near the top of the compression stroke. the sound you hear is the compressed air being released out of that 5th valve. usually theres 3 switches. 1 for cylinders 1 and 2, a second for cylinders 3 and 4 and if you need stop real quick the 3rd switch can be flipped to engage all 6 compression brakes. they usualy wont engage until the brake pedal is pressed.

I know Beam doesn't get to use official vehicle brand names, but the vehicles do tend to be modelled after real-world vehicles.... in that sense, to potentially answer your question at 4:00, since the Gavril T-Series looks kinda like an International, I would hazard a guess and say that right there is commonly called a "Jacobs Brake". these work by cutting fuel to the engine, using the piston compression stroke to create resistance on the drive shaft, thereby using the driving wheels to brake. the loud sound that comes out the exhaust stacks would be the cylinder valves opening while the piston chamber is under pressure, creating a crazy loud "pop" sound from each one. interesting side note here: here in South Africa these International trucks are pretty popular choices as tow-trucks for other trucks... the vibrations from the Jacobs Brakes is so intense, that most of these big tow-truck drivers actually need to wear kidney belts while driving.. pretty hectic stuff.

Beam ng is trucking, rally, off road, trophy truck, nascar, f1 and GT racing sim all in one. Best game ever.

Funny. In the files the T-series used to be called "semi" now it's "us-semi" could be sooner then later.

@@jaronhamrick6702 we definitely need a Kenworth equivalent to compliment the T-series since they're essentially Peterbuilts.

When are we gonna get vehicles properly breaking apart, not just stretching and clipping through objects in the map? And destructible engines, static props and steering wheels, as well as more realistic enertia physics? These devs like to take their time haha
